The mid to long-term plan of the research center is to gradually release the pandas back into the wildlife. They have completed the first phase of the plan in raising up many new cubs to attain the goal of 300 live pandas in total. Now the research center is working with the Chinese government in developing new and extended natural reserves in the Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu provinces of China. The recent increase in baby cub births has really been a great inspiration for this movement which may be completed within the next 50 years or so.
