Pile drivers are mechanical devices which are used for driving the piles or the poles into the soil in order to provide the foundation for the support of structures such as buildings. This term is used also to refer to people or to crews working on a construction and are assigned to the rigs for pile driving. The ancient equipment that is used for this utilizes either a manual or an animal labor for lifting the heavy weights by the use of pulleys.

An equipment which is used nowadays are utilizing the new methods in raising and guiding pole weights. However, the equipment may impose negative effects towards the environment. Underwater sound pressure is the most common problem for pile driver sales because of pile driving. Due to this reason, the lives underwater can be damaged especially in the fish bearing waters.

The pile drivers are consist of some different types that include VTL system, hydraulic press in, piling rig, diesel hammer, hydraulic hammer, and vibratory pole driver or extractor. Modern types of diesel hammers contain two large sized engines. Piston is the term that refers to its weight and cylinder refers to an apparatus that is being connected into the pole part. The fuel is being injected or is being added into the apparatus or cylinder.

VTL systems or vertical travel lead systems were developed due to fundamental limitations in fixed lead and swinging lead systems. The fixed lead system would fit in job sites where in only few number of obstructions are present and where in positioning the lead faster is an advantage. The hanging lead is an adaptable type for better piles and also for the different elevations, but this may take longer when positioning.

The modern hydraulic hammer was used to replace the diesel and the air hammer types when driving steel pipes, timber piles, and precast concrete. This type is considered to be more acceptable in the environmental aspect compared to old types. For the reason that this type generates lesser noise and contains lesser pollutants.

A hydraulic press in is a type that install piles by using a hydraulic ram in pressing piles in to the ground. This is usually preferred to be used when vibrations are required. This allows also to have a greater press amount and greater amount in force extraction. The methods together with its equipment were being classified into some portions on the system for internal drainage.

Vibratory pile hammers are composed of systems that are powered by the hydraulic motors. These are being designed to be able to let those horizontal vibrations canceled out and to let vertical vibrations be transmitted into a pole. The machine is going to be lifted and positioned into a pole using excavators or cranes. Then it will be fastened to pole with clamps and bolts.

A piling rig is one machine which is often utilized for constructions in piling for the foundation engineering. To perform a drill in clay, sandy soil, silty clay, etc. Is its main purpose. It is commonly used for foundation reinforcement, diaphragm walls, place piles, etc. And other foundation projects.

The operation of piling rigs are being applied with hydraulic pilot controls and load sensors, and thus, it makes it easier to be controlled. Common uses for this are for expressways, civil and industrial buildings, water projects, etc. A piling rig comes into three different sizes which are the small sized, middle sized, and large sized rigs.
