Hiring Companies That Check For Mold In Homes

By Mark Robinson

Presence of Mold in a house is usually a major problem that needs to be corrected as soon as possible. Mold has several negative effects on human health, which makes it important to hire a professional contractor to have it removed. However, hiring companies that check for mold in homes can be a problem if one does not know the factors to consider. Here are some of the factors to keep in mind when looking to hire a mold remediation company.

The kind of methods a company employs when determining if the substance exists should be given priority. In most cases, firms perform simple air quality sampling tests. However, these kinds of tests cannot provide definitive results. Material samples and a thorough home sweep needs to be done in addition. The presence of an infestation and its extent can only be identified if a full inspection is performed.

Another factor to check is the kind of qualifications the removal specialist and inspector have. Even though no nationwide academic and certification requirements exist, it is important to ensure the person hired is well-trained and licensed. They should also be engaged in ongoing training. There are two kinds of licenses that are often held by mold removal specialists, that is, certified microbial consultant, CMC, and certified microbial inspector, CMI.

A good company should have tested and proven quality control systems. Most companies usually lack any form of quality control and those which have them do not attach a lot of importance to them. Companies which lack quality control usually handle issues as they come in and do not adopt proactive quality assurance. Companies that know what they are doing have robust training systems and perform spot checks.

The length of time the company has been in business is very important. Firms which have been in existence for long have the experience it takes to do a good job very fast. Experienced companies also tend to have many previous clients one can consult about their quality of service.

One must ensure they have price estimates from a minimum of 3 different firms. Making the decision can be made easier with these estimates. Similarly, price estimates allow for price comparisons. Quality of service and cost are the two factors upon which the choice of a service provider should be based.

The company being hired must have insurance cover. Insurance cover provides protection against damages which may be incurred during mold remediation processes. It also protects the client from liabilities coming from injuries suffered by employees when working. Without an insurance cover, the client may be held responsible for injuries that employees surfer while working.

Lastly, one is advised to select a company which is situated near the site of work. This way, one can save on transportation costs involved. The contractor selected must also be able to offer guarantee for the kind of services they will be providing to the client.
