Death stalked the multiplex in North America on Friday as Warner Bros.' new Horror Tale "THE FINAL DESTINATION" took the top spot with an estimated $10.9 million. The R-rated film directed by David R. Ellis, with gory episodes that unspool in 3D, set down in 3,121 theaters, where it should claim a mid-$20 million haul over the Weekend. It's easily the biggest installment for the nine-year-old franchise. It aced the weekend's other debuting horror tale, "Halloween II," from the Weinstein Co.'s Dimension Films label.

The Weinstein Co. also claimed the third spot as Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" entered its second weekend with $5.9 million, down 59% from its opening day.Rounding out the top five, Sony's sci-fi parable "District 9," now in its third weekend, ranked fourth with $3 million.
