Filipino-Americans in Miss USA 2009

There are no big news in Philippine showbiz these days except the never-ending controversies the Gutierrez family is generating. This prompted me to deal on the subject of beauty pageants in this post, just temporarily. In case, you aren't aware, I am also keeping another blog about this subject which is even older than Siete Contra Dos.

To start with, last night, The Miss USA 2009 was concluded in Las Vegas, Nevada. The crown went to the beautiful representative of North Carolina, Kirsten Dalton. She will be representing USA in the Miss Universe pageant in the Bahamas comes August.

Our representative to the Miss Universe is Pamela Bianca Manalo.

But Dalton's victory was overshadowed by the controversy generated by the answer given by her runner up from California, Carrie Prejean, to the question from one of the judges. At the final Question and Answer portion, blogger Perez Hilton asked Prejean her opinion about legalizing same-sex or gay Marriage to which she answered negatively. She was booed by the audience and obviously they did not agree nor respect the beauty queen's idea.

"We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage," Prejean said. "And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offence to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised."

A shouting match was reportedly occurred at the lobby of the pageant venue. This only shows, expressing your opinion could be dangerous. This is the same scenario which is taking place in our showbiz nowadays.

Going back to the topic, did you know that there were two Filipino-Americans who represented two different states in this pageant?  Miss Hawaii, Aureana Tseu,  and Miss Texas, Aileen Jan Valdehuesa Yap both have the Filipino roots.
