Digital India- Great idea for public services integration

A step towards empowering citizens digitally is to provide a collaborative platform to have public services linked directly to them. In terms of technology, there is more than just the concept of cashless economy and online payments. If one comes to think about it, a lot more can be explored in digitization, rather than just online shopping or e-payments. The idea of inculcating digitization in governmental procedures is to make Digital infrastructure a ‘utility’ for people, government and services.

National e-governance plan is an effort to escalate digital literacy to the next level by bringing public services closer to citizens via digital means. The sole objective of e-governance is to create transparency between public and government services. With the evolving idea of Digital India, services by the government will be electronically delivered and the solutions to all the public queries are made digitally accessible. Citizens can now have easier access to all public services, information and policies. It helps in keeping track of the activities done by local authorities across various public domains like land records, municipal records, education, passports, birth, death and marriage records. Citizens can easily trace down the relevant details from these records as the scanning processes are automated, hence eliminating the tedious manual task of scanning through large public data. Traditionally, manual scanning was a very a time consuming task and was a potential to errors. With digitization, the effort and time spent on it is dramatically reduced, giving out error free and reliable data, hence increasing the credibility of government services.

Digitization for sure plays an important role in promoting economic development of the country. By making public services available, businesses can collaborate with the state government to leverage technology further and grow. In addition to reducing the operational and material costs, it meets the real needs of the general public as the interactions between the public and the government machinery is considerably made easier. With digitization as the core concept, public relationship for government agencies has improved like never before. The concept of ‘Digital India’ is an attempt to build a stronger infrastructure within the country by encouraging digital literacy among its citizens. When backed by proper infrastructure, digital transformation is no more a choice, but a necessity to fuel a potential growth.
