David Gordon Green set to direct all three ‘The Exorcist’ films for Universal

As previously reported David Gordon Green is moving on to The Exorcist franchise, helping to create an entire new trilogy that’ll serve as sequels to the original classic currently in development at Universal.

In a recent interview Green talked about his writing process and his future involvement on the franchise.

Green confirmed in the interview that he will co-write and direct all three films and said that

“the first one of our trilogy is written and the second two are being outlined. So we’ve got a ways to go on that, but we know where we’re going. It’s a new journey [with] some familiar characters and some new ones as well.”

Check out the full interview here.

Leslie Odom Jr. will star in the new Exorcist trilogy and original cast member Ellen Burstyn is back as Chris MacNeil!

The plot details for the upcoming sequel are minimal but state that:

“Odom Jr. will play the father of a possessed child. Desperate for help, he tracks down Ms. Burstyn’s character.”

The Exorcist franchise hasn’t been on the big screen since the 2005 release of Dominion: Prequel to The Exorcist, an alternate version of the previous year’s Exorcist: The Beginning. Those films came in the wake of 1977’s The Exorcist II: The Heretic and 1990’s The Exorcist III.

More recently, “The Exorcist” became a short-lived television series at Fox, which was surprisingly excellent and cleverly took place in the same world as the original classic. The series was cancelled after just two seasons.
