Zack Snyder’s ‘Army of the Dead’ to get limited theatrical release

In an uncommon move from streamer Netflix, the Zack Snyder-directed “Army of the Dead,” will play exclusively in US cinemas starting on May 14th for one week prior to its Netflix release on May 21st. Notably, Cinemark, one of the country’s biggest theater chains, has agreed to screen the movie. It is booked at 200 Cinemark locations, making “Army of the Dead” the first Netflix film to score a wide release at a major theater chain. The movie will play at roughly 600 theaters in total, including iPic, Landmark, Alamo Drafthouse, Harkins and Cinépolis. Other major circuits, specifically AMC and Regal, will not be offering the film.

Army of the Dead is directed by Snyder, from a script he wrote with Shay Hatten and Joby Harold. The cast includes Dave BautistaElla Purnell, Ana de la RegueraGarret DillahuntRaúl CastilloOmari Hardwick, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tig Notaro and Matthias Schweighöfer.

The film will be Snyders second film to be released online in 2021; following Zack Snyder’s Justice League release in March; that film is yet to see a theatrical release. The film is produced by Netflix and Snyder’s ‘The Stone Quarry’.
