Admittedly, there is a lot more guesswork for me when it comes to this year’s Oscar predictions. However, I am still going to try my best.
Best Picture – Nomadland
Long before I was even able to watch the film, I was hearing that Nomadland was going to be the film to beat when it comes to the Oscars this year, so I am going to go along with that narrative.
Directing – Chloé Zhao, Nomadland
The Oscars still have a long way to go before it can truly be diverse, but giving the Best Director award to an Asian woman will be the next big step.
Writing (Original Screenplay) – Emerald Fennell, Promising Young Woman
If Promising Young Woman walks away with anything during the Oscars, I am pretty sure that it is going to be for the screenplay.
Writing (Adapted Screenplay) – Chloé Zhao, Nomadland
As fun as it would be to say Academy Award Winning Sacha Baron Cohen, I’m sure that Nomadland getting the Adapted Screening nod is the safer bet.
Actor in a Leading Role – Anthony Hopkins, The Father
While some are predicting a posthumous award for Chadwick Boseman, I think this will be the year that Anthony Hopkins walks away with his second Oscar.
Actor in a Supporting Role – Daniel Kaluuya, Judas and the Black Messiah
While there is a chance that Daniel Kaluuya and LaKeith Stanfield would cancel themselves out for inexplicably being nominated in the same category, I’m going to place my money on Kaluuya, unless the Academy really do like the sound of “Academy Award Winning Sascha Baron Cohen.”
Actress in a Leading Role – Frances McDormand, Nomadland
As great as it would be for Carey Mulligan to win for Promising Young Woman, I believe that McDormand winning her third Oscar is a more sure pick.
Actress in a Supporting Role – Olivia Coleman, The Father
This category is a difficult one this year, but I’m going to prediction that Olivia Coleman wins her second Oscar in three years and solidifies her place in history.
