Love Your Little Sister

While I was playing around with my blog last night, I suddenly got the urge to try a new template. I liked the one that you see now, so I decided to go with it just to change things up. I do wish my banner was still there. According to the layout, it should still be seen, but I don't see it. Anyway, I hope you all like it. I decided to skip my next review at my other blog for the moment so I can get one more in here this month. I will just do two in a row at my other blog next up. For this review, I will take a look at My Little Sister (2016).

Tom (Mattia Rosellini) and Sheila (Holli Dillion) are trekking through the woods in order to meet up with some friends who are camping. All goes well for them until they get to the campsite. While the tents and stuff are there, their friends are nowhere to be found. They do meet Ben (David White) who is sporting a big ax and tells the couple that they need to leave. They don't want to, at least without finding out what happened to their friends. Besides, why listen to a guy who is acting a bit crazy and has an ax? They should listen, as there is someone out there looking to kill them and he has their friends.

I was surprised to learn that My Little Sister is from Italy. Since it is in English, I wasn't expecting it to be from Italy. It is from co-directors Roberto del Piccolo, who also gets the writing credit and Maurizio del Piccolo. This is a movie that gets to the point right out of the gate. As soon as the movie starts, we meet the killer, and we get to see what he does to people. He seems to kill the women but peels the skin off of the guy's faces before killing them. The story is pretty bare bones as well, with no real subplot going on. At times, there is also very little talking going on. While I enjoyed the overall story, there was some things that didn't make a lot of sense to me in the end. Even though My Little Sister tries to explain why Igor, played by Saverio Percudani, is doing what he is doing. There is a backstory that explains things a little bit, but I felt it came up short. The backstory had to do with when Igor was a kid and his sister found humor in hurting others. This is touched on some, but not enough really. There were some unanswered questions, which I may have worked out after thinking about everything, but I do wish the story had been a tad more clear about things. The backstory was done with the sister filming things and is shown in parts more than once, and then all at once towards the end of the film. The film tries to give a bit of a twist at the end, but that part was easy to figure out what was going to happen at least. Since we watched most of the backstory before it is shown in one long form, I didn't see the point of showing it all again towards the end. This is a movie I would like to watch again sometime just to see if what I now think happened holds up. Despite my confusion, I did like the story. Sheila becomes the main character and it was interesting to watch her try to outsmart Igor in order to save herself and friends. How she ends up doing that reminded me a bit of Friday The 13th Part 2, just a little bit.

The effects are pretty good here. Not overly gory, but there are still some good effects. The face peeling is the highlight, but there are also a few other effects to be found as well. The acting was also good. Holli Dillion was great in the lead role here. Once in a while, I would get annoyed by her character, which I was never really sure if it was her acting or just the character that was causing me to feel that way. Those were few and far between, however. There was a very good scene between her and Mattia Rosellini when things were not looking good at all. I also enjoyed Saverio Percudani in his role as Igor, or Little Sister as he is listed in the credits. I was a little confused by the way some scene were acted, but as I said above, I think I know why now.

I think I would have liked My Little Sister more if we had actually gotten to know the sister much more. The title is still a little confusing to me since the sister was barely in the film. I think we only actually get to see her once. To be honest, I was more interested in the backstory than I was the story in present day, but that isn't the story that the directors were wanting to tell. Not that I minded the story in present day, as I did enjoy it. Hopefully, there will be at least one more movie that delves into the past just a bit more than this one did. Either way, I'm looking forward to watching My Little Sister again someday. The sooner the better as a matter of fact. Worth checking out if you are into slasher films.
3 out of 5 Too bad I wasn't the little sister
