Denzel Washington stars in “Roman J. Israel, Esq.” a dramatic thriller set in the underbelly of the overburdened Los Angeles criminal court system. The movie screened at the Toronto Film Festival.
“Washington plays a driven, idealistic defense attorney whose life is upended when a turbulent series of events challenge the activism that has defined his career,” according to the press release. Colin Farrell costars as the ambitious, monied lawyer who recruits Roman to his firm.
“Roman J. Israel, Esq” is written and directed by Dan Gilroy, who was last at the Toronto Film Festival with his dark urban drama, “Nightcrawler,” starring Jake Gyllenhaal a nocturnal bottom-feeding stringer who peddles his video to the highest media bidder.
The film opens November 3.
