“The Book of Henry” is set in a small suburban town where “things are not always what they seem,” according to the Focus Features press release.
The story centers on the Carpenter family, which consists of single mother Susan (Naomi Watts), her younger 8-year-old son, Peter (the adorable Jacob Tremblay from “Room”) and older son, Henry (Jaeden Lieberher), age 11, who tries to take care of everyone and everything. Susan works as a waitress at the local diner, along with her wise cracking friend Sheila (Sarah Silverman).
According to the press release, Henry “is protector to his adoring younger brother and tireless supporter of his often self-doubting mother – and, through investments, of the family as a whole – Henry blazes through the days like a comet. Presumably Susan is raising a child genius.
Susan discovers that the family next door, which includes Henry’s kind classmate Christina (Maddie Ziegler), has a dangerous secret – and that Henry has devised a surprising plan to help. As his brainstormed rescue plan for Christina takes shape in thrilling ways, Susan finds herself at the center of it.”
