What Does Form Mean When Betting on Tennis?

You can bet on a major tennis tournament or just playing a Challenger draw that is held in your local hometown, tennis betting is one of the most popular clubs to be a part of your handicapping toolkit.

The tennis season begins in January and runs through to November, and that means that there are always tennis odds that can be put your bets on.

Yes, even in those dreary summer months.

Unfortunately, tennis is impossible to grasp for the uninitiated. The scoring seems strange and there are lots of variables in a match that very few tennis players spend the time to explain.

Thank goodness, I’m here to help. I’ve played tennis for over 20 years, and I’ve racked massive profits through betting inefficient parts of the market that casual bettors never even consider.

If you’re interested to understand how you can bet on tennis, here’s the starting point.

How to Bet on Tennis: A Quick Review of Tennis Odds & Tennis Betting

Let’s get started with the fundamentals. There are several fundamental elements to think about for handicapping tennis Court Form, price and form.

Tennis Betting: What is the impact of court style on Betting On Tennis?

There are three primary kinds courts for tennis available on tour – clay, grass and hardcourt. Players generally have different levels of skill which can set them up to be successful (or success or) across different types of surfaces.

For instance, clay court matches tend to be a little slower and usually have more playing.

However grass courts are notoriously quick-paced.

Understanding strengths and weaknesses of players is crucial to lasting success in the tennis betting space.

Tennis Betting What does Form Mean When Betting in Tennis?

When it comes to tennis “form” generally refers to the description of the way one is playing. Players who are playing well are said to be in good form; players who are not performing well are in poor form.

It is important to know how you play for betting on any year-round sport such as tennis. Bettors love to hop on the bandwagon of hot players.

They may also want to make players fade after an extended losing streak.

Tennis Betting How do Tennis Odds Work When Betting?

As opposed to other sports, where betting on points spreads, the tennis market (like baseball) is more of a market which is focused around straight moneyline costs.

Tennis betting on a favorite to win often means placing heavy juice. Famous favorites like Novak Djokovic are regularly -1000 or less against the standard tennis competition.

As a result, betting on favorites can yield a lower profits than other sports and also, upsets are more costly.

On the other hand can be extremely profitable depending on your ability to spot and bet the right ones.

ATP Schedule: Understanding the Tennis Calendar

Click here for tennis bets tips.

The men’s tennis (ATP) calendar is year-round. Tennis tournaments begin in January, and run through November.

Many players, especially top contenders – will not play 11 straight months of unbroken tennis. There are however professional tournaments virtually every week that are loaded with tennis players and odds.

Every season generally begins in January and runs through the Australian summer. For example, the Australian Open – the first major tournament of the season begins at the end of January and runs into February.

Tournaments on hardcourts continue through North America through the winter.

The clay season kicks off in spring and the tour’s focus shifts to Europe as well as clay courts. It culminates early in June with the second major of the calendar.

It’s a short grass season in late June and into early July. It’s highlighted by a fortnight of Wimbledon.

The second half on the calendar are much less organized, with tournaments worldwide and on various surfaces. The most important date listed on this calendar remains the last major event of the year The US Open, played at Flushing Meadows in New York every September.

Non-major tour tournaments have numbers that define how big or prestigious that particular tournament is. ATP 1000 events are among the most important non-major tournaments.

There are also between 500 plus 250 and 500 events.

WTA Schedule

Tennis for women (WTA) professional tournament is based on the same general schedule as that of the male tour. Major tournaments take place concurrently with minor weeks, while some other weeks are held in completely different venues.

For example: Last week the tour for men was playing in Winston-Salem in the United States, while the women’s tour played two events at Cleveland and Granby (Canada). This week, however both tours coalesce to play the US Open in New York.

Tips to Betting on Tennis Free

In the case of tennis odds one of my favorite strategies is to bet on odds that are not intuitive.

Every tournament has seeded players, and each player is given an expert ranking. Seeds and rankings are often not very useful, however, the betting market usually ignores this.

Bettors will take a bet on players with less form or court strength just because they have more numbers next to their name.

Because of this, I try to find places where higher-ranked or seeded players are valued as short underdogs. This is why I prefer betting the lower-ranked favorite.

One of these instances occurred recently. At the Winston-Salem Open, unseeded French player Adrian Mannarino was matched up against the No. 8 seed Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

Despite the seeding differences, Mannarino was priced at the BetMGM online sportsbook as a 150-150 odds favorite.

The play jumped out at me, so I began to research the match more. I discovered Mannarino had a record of three-point head-to-head win against Ramos Vinolas however, he was 3-0 on hardcourt. Also, Winston-Salem is a true hardcourt tournament.

I placed a bet of two units on Mannarino’s victory, and he swept to an easy, straight-set victory.

It can also be very profitable to look at tennis games as live betting opportunities.

There are few sports that have high leverage occasions like tennis, which means that the odds can change dramatically based on the outcome of just a few points.

Bets on tennis live odds can create quick advantage situations for bettors on sports.
