David Morrissey Wants A ‘Walking Dead’ Governor Spin-Off

Former The Walking Dead actor David Morrissey, who’s well known for his villain The Governor on the zombie drama would like to reprise the role in a potential spin-off, but admits it probably won’t happen.

There is huge potential if another The Walking Dead spin-off were to be created by AMC about the Governor. Both Robert Kirkman and Jay Bonansinga wrote a series of novels serving as a prequel to when he’s introduced in both the show and comics. The books read brilliantly and are a must-read for any Walking Dead fan and you can buy book one Rise of the Governor at its cheapest here (21% OFF!).

Even now, with season 9 of The Walking Dead on the horizon and Negan having been in the show for two seasons, many fans still see Philip Blake (The Governor) as the dramas greatest ever villain.

When David Morrissey recently spoke with The Guardian he spoke about about whether he would consider reprising his role as The Governor, and confirmed that if he were given the opportunity, he would love to play him again.

“I would love to play the role again, however there are no plans to do it. Not to my knowledge anyway. He was a character that I felt had great depth and complexity. Not just a cardboard baddy. A lot of my inspiration for the role came from the books written by Robert Kirkman and Jay Bonansinga. I think these books are fantastic and I think it would be wonderful to do a mini series of them.”

Former showrunner on TWD Scott Gimple, who has now been promoted chief content officer at AMC, touched on the subject of new spin-off shows, saying that his team have a bunch of ideas in mind for the future.

“We have a bunch of different things in mind,” he said. “Some things that are really complimentary to the stuff we’re doing now and some stuff that’s far afield and very different.”

The new showrunner of The Walking Dead will be former co-executive producer Angela Kang, who was promoted into this position. Angela Kang joined in The Walking Dead writing staff in Season 2 as a Story Editor. She then went on to become co-Executive Producer by Season 5 till season 8. In season 9 she will act as showrunner. No pressure.

Would you like to see a spin-off that will see David Morrissey return to the screen?
