Today I had the opportunity to interview actor David Banks about his upcoming movie 5th of July.

Tell us about ‘5th Of July’, what is it about?
Orlando (Jaleel White) just wants to spread his father’s ashes in the national park but everything imaginable stops him – mayhem ensues. It’s directed by the ultra talented Camilo Vila who was an absolute honor to work with.
What do you love about your character, Carruthers?
He is a very annoying police officer who doesn’t let up and is always right there pestering everyone he possibly can.
What was your biggest challenge when taking on this role?
It never seems to be much of a challenge playing the dorky, idiotic, quirky odd ball for some reason. Apparently it’s not much of a stretch [LAUGHS]
Where does this role rank when compared to your others?
It’s right up there with my typical spastic behavior. I used to get offended with the whole “type cast” thing. Now I just embrace it [LAUGHS]

If you could pick any movie or TV show to be in, which would you choose?
That’s a great question…..I would say the darker the better. I love a nice dramatic challenge. I would have to say Ozark is one of my favorite shows at the moment. I am a pretty big on the whole Netflix binge. I don’t leave my house until I have watched every episode. Well perhaps a quick pizza break.
Is there anything we can watch in the meantime until 5th of July comes out?
I just finished the cartoon Lovesick Fool which is now on Amazon Prime. Staring Lisa Kudrow, Fred Willard and Janeane Garofalo. [It follows] The adventures of a single guy in L.A. in search of true love.
