Fans are eagerly anticipating seeing Jude Law in action as a young Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts 2, a role which co-star Eddie Redmayne believes Jude Law is perfectly suited for.

The next installment of the ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ movie franchise will see the much-anticipated return of Dumbledore to our screens. The role of young Dumbledore was given to 45 year-old English actor Jude Law, a casting which co-star Eddie Redmayne believes is perfect.

Eddie Redmayne portrays Newt Scamander in the movie and in a recent interview about his upcoming movie Early Man, the topic eventually came on to Fantastic Beasts and then the casting of Jude Law as Dumbledore. Speaking about this interesting casting, Redmayne told ScreenRant: “I had talked a little bit with Jo [Rowling] about what Newt and Dumbledore’s relationship was in the first film because it was alluded to. And then when they cast Jude, who I’ve known for a long time, it made such sense because there was a kind of debonair quality to him, but also like a playfulness that felt entirely appropriate, but also there’s kind of a weight to his… he’s got a weightiness, Dumbledore… Not physical weightiness, but when Jude arrived on set, he just looked so perfect. It all made complete sense.”

Eddie Redmayne isn’t the only one delighted with Jude Laws’ Dumbledore, when the casting was first announced, Fantastic Beasts & Harry Potter producer David Heyman expressed his excitement in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. Read what he said about the new portrayal of the now iconic role which has been played by Sir Michael Gambon and Richard Harris in the past: “One of the reasons we chose Jude is he has many of the qualities we find in Dumbeldore in the Potter films. He’s got authority, he’s got a twinkle in his eye, he’s sometimes a bit elliptical. So you have that but also have this youthful energy and jubilance. So he brings that twinkle, mischief, authority, and power, but at the same time brings far more youthful energy to the film. You understand why he would be your favorite teacher and be someone you believe is an extraordinary wizard.”

It’s fair to say that we’re excited to see what Jude Law’s portrayal will bring to the franchise. ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’ is set for release November 16th 2018.
