In the mix of content-driven and comprehensive masala artists, horror/supernatural films hold a certain place. There are very few films in the supernatural genre that have managed to impress audiences. From Bhootnath Returns to Stree, viewers have begun to love these films that strike a chord. Atithi Bhooto Bhava adds to the list of such films.
What is it about…
Pratik Gandhi, Jackie Shroff, Sharmin Segal, Divinaa Thackur and Siman Sharma star in the story of a new-age couple who live in a relationship. Pratik Gandhi aka Srikant is a comedian while his girlfriend Sharmin Segal aka Netra is a flight attendant. The couple have lost love and need a dash of romance to add spice. When Pratik Gandhi follows the Pyaar ka Panchnama path by ranting against his girlfriend through his comedy, the boom Jackie Shroff appears. He plays the role of Makkhan – a ghost. He meets Pratik Gandhi and then begins a journey to complete Makkhan – a ghost’s love story. Pratik, his girlfriend, their friend and the ghost then embark on a road trip to Uttar Pradesh, to the village of Makkhan, to find his childhood sweetheart. The twist comes at the end but we won’t give spoilers. But as a teaser, we will tell you that Pratik Gandhi alias Srikant was Makkhan’s grandfather in his previous life. Well, it’s up to you to watch how the road trip unfolds and what happens at the end.

What’s hot…
The film begins with a picturesque view of nature and agricultural fields. It basically jumps from past to present and back, giving a nice view of both eras. The film’s USP is definitely Jackie Shroff. He is cute like Makkhan – a character that contains emotions of pain and love. He basically meets his Daduji who is now much younger than him. His antics as a ghost are fun to watch. Pratik Gandhi does his best to keep the plot in place with his natural acting, however, expectations from him are very high now after the success of Scam 1992. He manages to throw good punch lines and make you laugh, his talent seems to be underutilized in the film. The background score achieved by Prasad S is moving. The film’s romantic songs add ambiance to the film.
What is not…
BL Verdict
Atithi Bhooto Bhava is director Hardik Gajjar’s good attempt to deliver a funny yet touching film. It’s a movie to watch once but don’t keep expectations high.
