Vivek Agnihotri directorial The Kashmir Files, which released in March 2022 remains one-of-the most talked about films till today. The movie based on exodus of Kashmiri Pandits emerged as a box office and minted more than Rs 300 crores. Ever since its release, the film has been mired in controversies for reasons including controversial statements by director, billed as propaganda and portrayal of Kashmiri Pandits. Recently, it found itself in hot waters again after veteran actress Asha Parekh took a dig at The Kashmir Files makers and questioned them to not use the earned money for helping Kashmiri Hindus.

Asha Parekh criticizes the makers of The Kashmir Files

During a media interaction, the actress was asked if she has watched The Kashmir Files and should such films be made. To which she told, “I haven’t seen those films, so I can’t comment on the controversies surrounding them. If people are watching them, then they should watch them.”

Talking about the film’s box office collection, Asha Ji stated,”Main thoda sa controversial statement karna chahti hoon (I will say something controversial now). The film’s producer made Rs 400 crore. Toh unhone Kitne Paise Diye unko jo Hindu Kashmiri hai, jo Jammu mein rehte hain, jinke paase pani nahi hai, electricity nahi hai, unko unhone kitne paise diye? (How much money did the makers give for the welfare of the Hindus living in Jammu without access to water and electricity?)”

She further added, “Unhone paise kamaye hai, distributor ka share hoga, unka share hoga? Chaliye Rs 400 crore mein se Rs 200 crore kamaye hai, toh Rs 50 crore bhi toh de sakte the na (Suppose the producers earned Rs 200 crore out of the film’s Rs 400 crore collection, they could have donated Rs 50 crore to help Kashmiri Hindus, right?)”

About The Kashmir Files

Touted to be a political drama, the movie was based on exodus of Kashmiri Pandits that took place in 1990. It starred Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Puneet Issar, Darshan Kumar, Prakash Belawadi, Mrinal Kulkarni, and Chinmay Mandlekar in key roles.
