Jaws (1975)

Jaws, an American cliffhanger and engaging movie of 124 minutes, directed by Steven Spielberg, made a huge splash in 1975.

Its star cast includes Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss, Lorraine Gary, and Murray Hamilton. It cost $9 million but earned $476.5 million.

It was the highest-grossing film of all time, until the release of Star Wars two years later, which pursued high box-office returns.

Jaws, being a violent movie, tends to produce intense reactions in its viewers. John Williams composed the film’s score. Its soundtrack is composed of the main ‘shark’ theme, with a simple alternating pattern of two notes: “E and F” or “F and F sharp”- became a classic piece of suspense music synonymous with approaching danger.

The story film is based on a man-eating great white shark that usually attacks beachgoers at a summer resort town, and is hunted by police chief Martin Brody with the help of professional shark hunter Robert Shaw and marine biologist Richard Dreyfuss.

The film has an Excellent script with outstanding acting, and amazing direction making this movie a definite see.

Jaws 2 (1978)

It is the sequel to Steven Spielberg’s Jaw and the second installment in the Jaws franchise. It is generally regarded as one of the best sequels of the Jaws movies. It is directed by Jeannot Szwarc and produced by Richard D. Zanuck and David Brown.

Its star cast includes most of the same cast of Jaws 1975 i.e. Roy Scheider, Lorraine Gary, and Murray Hamilton.

The movie cost the studio $30 million and earned $208 million at the box office. It received mixed reviews from the audience, while some believed that the movie is not equivalent to the original, and many regard this film as the best of the sequels.

The story of the film is very similar to the original one released in 1975. The story starts after four years, when the first white shark was destroyed, again beginning the terrifying sequence of the disappearance of beachgoers of Amity island.

When the second white horrendous much larger shark begins terrorizing the waters, then-Police Chief Brody undertakes the task of protecting the people of Amity from the shark attacks.

The shark of Jaws 2 was nasty but lacked the ferocity of the white shark of the original movie ‘Jaws’.

Some of the captivating horror scenes of the movie include the helicopter scene and boat crash. The film also has some great underwater shots. If you have watched the first one and want to see the same story again with different scenes, we recommend you to watch Jaws 2.

Jaws 3-D (1983)

It is the second sequel to Steven Spielberg’s Jaws and the third film in the installment of the Jaws franchise. It is titled Jaws III in 2-D format. Directed by Joe Alves, and produced by Rupert Hitzig, Jaws 3-D was released on July 22. 1983.

This time the cast includes Dennis Quaid, Bess Armstrong, Lea Thompson, and Louis Gossett.

The movie centers around the Brody children from the previous part. When a Florida marine park with underwater tunnels and lagoons was ready for opening, a young great white shark creeps into the park from the adjoining sea, assailing and killing the park’s employees.

A group of marine biologists tries to capture the shark. In 1983, the disposable cardboard polarised 3D glasses worn by the theatre audience while watching the movie create the illusion of elements penetrating the screens and coming close to them.

The movie has a couple of pretty good shark attack scenes but it doesn’t match the original film in fright and shock value. However, It received heavily negative reviews in 3D format.

Jaws: The Revenge (1987)

The 90 mins fourth and final part of the Jaws franchise was released in 1987, Directed and produced by Joseph Sargent and written by Michael de Guzman. Its stars Lorraine Gary, Lance Guest, Mario Van Peebles, Karen Young, and Michael Caine.

Ellen Brody expresses her belief that the great white shark is seeking revenge on the Brody family, as it has killed her son and has followed her to the Bahamas.

The film brings in the notorious tagline- ‘This time, it’s personal.’ “Jaws: The Revenge” is, by like-mindedness, a terrible film but to its credit, it is well-photographed and the score music is appealing that somehow was able to inject dramatic tension into the scenes.
