The singer died yesterday at her home in Switzerland at the age of 83, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the world of music.

Although she launched a solo Career, but the late 70s she was seen as a nostalgia act. However the 1980s saw a huge revival in her fortunes though with her hit 1984 album Private Dancer, earning four Grammy Awards and becoming one of the most successful female artists of all time. The record spawned the chart-topping singles  What’s Love Got to Do with It and Better Be Good to Me. She also recorded We Don’t Need Another Hero for the 1985 film Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, in which she also appeared. Her success was further cemented by her iconic live performances.

In 1995 Turner was approached to perform the title song for Goldeneye. Her classic style of singing and a strong commitment to her craft made her an ideal choice for the producers. The song was written for her by U2’s Bono and The Edge and is highly regarded by many 007 fans.

Turner had a tremendous impact on the music industry and is one of the best-selling artists of all time. During her career she picked up a total of 12 Grammy Awards.
