Not Without Danger – The episode seemingly picks up several days after the event at Glass Knuckle. While Jack Glass (Harry Goodwins) lies in the hospital fighting for his life, Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario) appears to have completely isolated herself. After failing to reach her by phone, he leverages Jimmy (Michael Vu) to share Susie’s address. He attempts to apologize and offers his help with Henry Collins (Max Beesley), but she only reminds him that it was his insistence to get out of the business that led to this very conclusion.

Susie returns to the prison for a visit with her father, Bobby Glass (Ray Winstone), where he attempts to get her to realize how irrationally she’s been acting over the last few days. Evidentially, she and Blanket (Logan Dean) have been on a murderous rampage, sloppily leaving a trail of bodies in their wake. He ultimately orders her to stand down and assures her that he will handle the Henry situation.

With Stanley Johnston (Giancarlo Esposito) tied up in other business matters, Eddie meets with his consigliere, Stevens (Alexis Rodney), to put a temporary hold on their recently discussed plans. Stevens is well aware of Jack’s situation and expresses his sympathies, but claims they may already have a solution to a peaceful resolution. When promoted Stevens unveils their strategy and claims all Eddie needs to get is procure the names of the other Lords with estates in the same position as theirs.

Returning home from college, Charly (Jasmine Blackborrow) is stunned to not only find the estate’s front gate locked but Geoff Seacombe (Vinnie Jones) standing guard. As it turns out, she has a surprise of her own, which is revealed the minute she steps out of the car to greet Lady Sabrina (Joely Richardson). Tammy (Chanel Cresswell) and Freddy Horniman (Daniel Ings) are the first of the kids to learn of the news and Freddy is also the first to ask who the father is. Charly’s response is interrupted by Sabrina’s claims that it doesn’t make a difference. Once Eddie shows up to speak to Lady Sabrina, Charly announces her plans to stay at the estate until she gives birth.

When Charly leaves to take a bath, Eddie learns Sabrina can’t provide any information on the Lords or estate locations Stevens requested. She does mention remembering a Christmas party at the Faringbourne Estate where the 13 Lords were in attendance. When Freddy hears the surname, he recognizes it as belonging to Tibsy. After failing to reach Tibsy on the phone, Freddie and Eddie pay a visit to the estate.

They not only arrive to find the Faringbourne Estate in a state of disarray, but it appears that a group of unsavory individuals have moved in after the Glass Family failed to renew their contract. Tibsy not only remembers Freddy but he provides a diary containing the names Eddie needs. Before Freddie and Eddie leave with the documents, the man appearing to be the leader of the unsavory individuals shows up. After some intimidation and threats, Eddie ends up trading his watch and Freddy’s pants for the diary. The encounter appears to affect Freddy so deeply that once they are outside, he apologizes for wishing for Eddie’s demise so that he would be named the head of the Estate. Eddie doesn’t take the news so well but ultimately tells him they need to be smarter or they are going to end up like Tibsy.

When Geoff surprises Lady Sabrina at the estate with a delivery of dandelion root to make tea for Charly, the truth about him being Charly’s father comes out. Although Charly joins them in the middle of their discussion, they do not share the truth with her.

Henry and his man, Mo Rahim (Mark Rhino Smith) are shown staking out Susie’s apartment before he makes a threatening phone call, subtly shining a light on the fact that he knows where she lives. Although she puts on a tough exterior, she appears to be startled because her next visit is to Eddie’s Estate, where she questions how he discovered her address.

Eddie blabs about getting the address from Jimmy, who blabs about remembering seeing her address on a shipping label. He also tells them about giving the address to Gabrielle (Ruby Sear). Eddie and Susie use the discovery to stage a fake meet with Gabrielle, who reveals the shocking revelation that it was Stanley Johnston behind everything. From the disruption at the Belgium border to the weed heist. Stanley was even behind what happened to Jack, although Henry is blamed for taking it too far and putting Jack in the hospital. After being pulled aside, Eddie pledges his loyalty to Susie. Gabrielle is then leveraged to stage a meeting with Stevens.

At a later meeting with Charly, Eddie is surprised to learn that she not only now knows about their activities under the farm, but she uses the story of learning about her pregnancy to give him the confidence to decide how to steer the family.

Eddie is then shown delivering the list of the 13 Lords to Stevens, who delivers the news to Henry after Eddie leaves.

While Susie and Blanket visit Jack in the hospital, Eddie visits Bobby to practically tell him that he’s siding with Stanley to help him take over the business so he can get out. As expected, Bobby doesn’t take the news so well and accuses Eddie of screwing him twice. Henry and Mo arrive at the hospital but are surprised to discover Jack’s room empty where they are ambushed by Susie and Blanket. Although Henry manages to escape he is later caught and winged in the shoulder. Although his demise is not shown, he warns her that Stanley always gets what he wants. Jack is also shown opening his eyes while his enemies are gunned down.

Seemingly sometime later, Susie makes a call to Errol (John McGrellis) and Gospel John Dixon (Pearce Quigley). Much to his surprise, she tells him that it was Freddie who killed his brother while dressed as a chicken.

The Gentlemen Review

Thank you may I have another? Deceit and deception are rampant in the pre-finale, with the stakes never being higher. I haven’t seen the movie, so I don’t know how related the stories are, although I imagine they are somewhat similar. That said, it feels like it’s a given that Eddie and Susie are working behind the scenes together. I very much enjoyed this episode and felt that it sufficiently set the stage for what should be an incredible finale. I’d give this episode a 5.8 out of 10.
