Shoresy Series 2 Episode 3 Recap

Set The Tone – The episode opens with Shoresy (Jared Keeso) relieving himself on the tire of the Soo Hunt team bus. At a meeting the following day, Nat (Tasya Teles) informs Shorsey about Delaney’s late night at the Coulson. With their game scheduled for later that day, Sanguinet (Harlan Blayne Kytwayhat) assumes this will play in the Bulldog’s favor. Ziigwan (Blair Lamora) reveals that she was also at the club partying when she adds that Delaney was going hard into the wee hours of the night. Nat urges Shoresy to use the information to their advantage and get in Delaney’s head early. Miigwan (Keilani Elizabeth Rose) inquires about Michaels’ (Ryan McDonell) strange behavior, but Shorsey says his behavior is normal for a goalie.

Later as the team makes their way to the rink, Michaels and Shoresy argue over the skill levels of American and Canadian hockey players. While warming up on the ice, Shoresy takes Nat’s advice and hurls insults at Delaney until Schnurr comes to his aid. That only causes Shoresy to go after Schnurr before turning the verbal assault back to Delaney. Delaney remains composed until Shorsey jokes about being able to breathe through his nose. Delaney claims he’s played through much worse against much better players. When Shorsey accuses him of feeling guilty, he says guilt is a performance enhancer. A fight nearly breaks out between the teams when Palmer comes to the aid of Delaney by threatening Shorsey.

When the officials step in, Liam (Keegan Long) radios Cory (Bourke Cazabon) from the stands to make sure he’s getting the footage. Cory confirms he is and asks about Liam’s date. Liam brags about French kissing but says that’s as far as he got.

The Bulldogs gather in the locker room where Shorsey berates the Jims (Jon Mirasty, Brandon Nolan, and Jordan Nolan) for not coming to his aid. Sanguinet tries to fire the team up by pointing out the only thing better than winning is winning against the Soo Hunt. He tells them to set the tone right from the beginning.

Palmer stares down Shoresy as both teams gather on the ice for the anthem. As soon as the puck drops, a fight breaks out between Plamer and one of the Jims. Shorsey watches from the box as Jim gets mauled. Soo jumps to an early 0-1 lead. The Bulldogs wrangle a goal, but Soo is back in the lead minutes later. In the locker room, another of the Jims assures the team he’ll score. Back on the ice, the Bulldogs tie the game at 2-2, but it isn’t long before Delaney sinks a goal and rubs it in Shoresy’s face. A frustrated Shorsey responds by verbally assaulting his teammate Dolo (Jonathan-Ismael Diaby). Palmer wrecks another of the Jims before the quarter ends with Soo one goal ahead at 2-3.

On their way to the locker room, Sanguinet attempts to comfort a weepy Shorsey by urging him to not hold back his tears. They know Dolo or Brant “Goody” Goodleaf (Andrew Antsanen) will not even the score. Shorsey says Frankie’s (Max Bouffard) head is in a box of Zebra Cakes and won’t be of any use either. This leaves them with only one option, Fish (Jacob Smith). Shorsey interrupts the team’s chiding of Jim getting knocked out by Palmer by asking Fish if he’s ready to be the hero. Sanguinet adds the pressure by telling him the team doesn’t have any use for scorers who don’t score. After several failed attempts, Fish not only manages to tie the game, but he sinks the game-winning goal. After the game, Fish warns Shorsey and Sanguinet to never put him in that position again. Entering the locker room, Fish receives a hero’s welcome.

Shorsey’s presence is soon requested by Nat who informs him that he has press to handle. he misinterprets it as an interview with Laura Mohr (Camille Sullivan). She quickly corrects him as she leads him toward the interview. He’s soon hurling insults about the “Make-A-Wish Foundation” when he learns he’s being interviewed by a kid named Jory Jordan (Maclean Fish). Miigwan tells him it’s an attempt to get more kids interested in the team. Throughout the interview, Shorsey is teased about his participation in the calendar and being held back in school.

Back in Nat’s office, she expresses her concerns with the team’s poor performance. Although Miigwan is impressed with Sanguinet’s threatening to cut Fish, Nat warns them to not do it again before reminding him and Sanguinet that they have other fires that need put out. Once alone, Miigwan swoons over Sanguinet’s new killer attitude while Ziigwan warns that he’s turning into Shorsey. Their conversation is soon interrupted by the arrival of a former hall of famer now maintenance man who attempts to explain the blockage and leaks in the visitors’ showers. Once he’s gone, Nat vows that she’s going to sleep with him.

Shorsey Review

It was nice to get some actual gameplay. Although the game was neck and neck, the suspense just wasn’t there. It is nice to see the team face and overcome adversity though. Other than that, this was your typical run-of-the-mill Shorsey episode (not necessarily a bad thing). The story is unfolding nicely and learning more about the new additions is always intriguing. It’ll be interesting to see where they go with the former Hall of Famer turned plumber. All in all, not a horrible episode, so I’d give it a 5 out of 10.
