Everything Fans Should Know To Gear Up For Second Season Of Joe Pickett

C.J. Box has successfully authored more than a handful of Joe Pickett novels in addition to countless others. Directors and producers certainly have no shortage of exciting tales to call on for the upcoming seasons of the hit series.

Will they follow along in order with the books and go directly to the next tale of the game warden and his humble family or will things be completely different? Maybe you aren’t even fully caught up on the first season yet.

Whatever the situation might be, this will get fans ready and geared up for the upcoming season. First things first, the first season followed closely along with C.J.’s debut Pickett novel, “Open Season.”

Longtime readers and fans of the series will notice some slight variations from the book while tuning into the first season, but they honestly didn’t impact the overall feel, story, or atmosphere. It’s just cool to know these things and to be able to point them out while watching. It shows the dedication of the more absorbed fan.

A Bit Of Rehash

Box and his brain trust of creative artists understand better than anyone the need to really bring it in the first season. You only get one first impression, right? Despite some saying that the series started a bit slower and lackluster, Pickett (Michael Dorman) and his humble family, living amongst the inexplicable and unforgiving outdoor beauty of Wyoming, were thrust right into the action.

It might have occurred at the end of the first episode, but the humble game warden found himself staring into the vacant eyes of a newly deceased man on his property.

Needless to say, Joe was intrigued and felt the need to probe further in order to protect his young and cherished family. After all, a dead man does not end up on your property without a good reason. Along the way, Joe with others finds himself tangled in a web of town conspiracies and even more intrigue as he simply tries to figure out what is going on.

As the story progresses, you’ll ultimately see how this discovery impacts the entire Pickett clan while also learning more about the locals and the surrounding, failing tiny community. As with smaller towns today, Joe’s little slice of Wyoming is on the verge of financial ruin, which will obviously have a huge impact on the story and locals.

As the backstories of the various characters unfold, Box and his team create an excellent platform for learning about some of the inner workings of a game warden and local law enforcement. There are some truly interesting things in the story for those that pay close attention.

It would be hard to find a more humble soul than Joe and his young, little family couldn’t be any more traditional. Saddlestring is the name of the fictional town the Pickett family resides in, and there is a whole host of supporting characters that only add to the small-town feel and story. Not to reveal too much, but the truly neat thing about this exciting debut season is the aspect of an endangered species.

The book even delves deeper and further into the laws and regulations regarding such circumstances, but the series, nonetheless, does an exceptional job of portraying the impact something like this could have on everyone involved.

Gearing Up For An Even More Exciting Second Season

Before anything else, it must be mentioned that Vivienne Guynn, Chad Rook, and Aadila Dosani have now been officially declared series regulars. Congratulations to them and they more than earned their right. While the first season introduced a handful of intriguing characters, with even more probing backstories, the second season will shake things up even further by introducing two main story arches.

Guess who will be right in the middle of both of them? You would be right if you guessed Joe and his lovely, young wife Marybeth. One storyline unfolds as Joe unwittingly happens upon a dead body in the woods. Not just any dead body, mind you. This is one of a dead hunter who just happens to be strung up and covered in elk entrails and fur. To Joe, it seems as if someone is hunting the hunter for sport.

As humble as a guy Joe is, this is something that startles him to his very core, and he’s thrown for a loop. He’s thrown for an even bigger loop when he also unwittingly gets thrown into the series’ second story arch. Elsewhere, Marybeth has taken it upon herself to launch an investigation into the disappearance of an Arapaho Tribe member, Marissa Left Hand. Yes, that’s the name of the character!

Just in case you do not recall, Marissa was the wife of the male Arapaho member that was killed in the first season. This was the mother of April Keeley, the shy, sensitive, and thoughtful little girl the Picketts adopted. Marissa subsequently abandoned April following the death of her hubby. As you can imagine, Joe is taken for a loop when he uncovers his wife’s investigation into the disappearance. Joe, however, is nonetheless more than willing to delve right in and lend a helping hand.

Welcome Aboard!

There will no doubt be several new additions and characters. Some of the have the potential to become regulars, some might find themselves victims, and some might be completely forgettable.

With all that in mind, Luke Brueggeman will be in a position to leave a lasting mark on this newly budding series. Luke will join the cast as Joe’s new Fish and Wildlife trainee. Right from the very start, he will find his character in a unique position to make a huge impact.

His character will feature an innate dislike for horses as well as a mouth that can run miles a minute.

Luke will be portrayed by Keean Johnson. In addition to these attributes, his character possesses unique and unconventional methods for herding elk. He is in a prime position to become the loveable screwball. Anyone familiar with the young actor’s previous works knows he has the chops to stand out on the series.

For anyone interested, Johnson just recently wrapped up with American Tragedies: Waco, so this opportunity could not have come at a more opportune time. He was also a big hit in the first season of Euphoria. The comedic sidekick position is virtually laid right there for the actor’s taking. This will not be a role that Deputy McLanahan will be taking, although he will be returning along with the series.

Regardless, McLanahan will no doubt continue to have a huge impact on the show as he is just one of those characters that fans love to hate. He’s one of those characters that fans will watch just in hopes of seeing failure, and Chad Rook plays this role masterfully.

Emily Alabi will also join the cast. Alabi starred in The Rookie, Blending Christmas, Runaways, Magnum P.I., Jane the Virgin, Teen Wolf, and NCIS. When will take on the role of Shenandoah in Joe Pickett.

Rod the Stormtrooper’s actor, Cheryl de Luca (Stacy Monaghan) is expected to join the cast as well. Luca has starred in Pink Is In, Darts, Dissolution, Islands, Darts, Sleepwalker, Sand Land, and Death Game.

Alex Breaux’s name has also been added to the cast. Timeout Magazine named Breaux a “Top Breakout Performer.” His role in Joe Pickett should validate the recognition. The up-and-coming actor will portray Timothy McVeigh in Waco: Aftermath on Paramount+. Breaux will be one of the Grimm Brothers twins, according to Alexbreaux.com.

Tanchay Redvers Joins Joe Pickett Season 2

Tanchay Redvers announced on her Facebook page that she’ll be joining the Joe Pickett season 2 cast. Redvers is best known for role as Officer Tina Stanley in Corner. She will also be starring in Shelved which is in post-production.

When Is The Joe Pickett Season 2 Premier?

Unfortunately, as of right now, there is no official release date for the second season of this exciting family drama. The only thing that really has been confirmed thus far is that a second season has been confirmed and the filming is in progress. Things are, however, reportedly going slow, according to source insiders.

We can expect to see Sheriff Barnum played by Patrick Gallagher in the second season, according to a Deadline. Patrick Gallagher is highly known for his role in on ABC’s “Big Sky.”

Where To Watch Joe Pickett Season 2?

While a premiere date has not been made official, fans can at least count on the fact that the show will be streamed via Spectrum Originals and Paramount Plus, where season one can currently be streamed.

What Big Streaming Changes Are Expected?

The second season was put into writing on February 9, 2022, and it will be a big surprise if streaming changes hands throughout the entirety of the show’s run. Season 1 nearly broke the Spectrum platform, as it pulled in the most viewers of all the platform’s offerings. With that being said, there are some streaming changes and these are for the better.

The first season premiered on December 6, 2021. The season, however, only kicked off with 10 episodes. Given the series’ success and probably the dual story arches, the second season was bumped up to 12 episodes. Exciting times for fans!
