The show begins with a panicky Rani Rekowski (Rhianne Barreto) being taken against her will to see Malaki (Charles Babalola).

72 Hours Earlier – When Christian Taylor (Gamba Cole) answers the door, he is facing Rani. She instantly tells him that she is in trouble before pleading for help. As they approach Esme (Alyana Goodfellow), she questions if Rani is pregnant. They assure her that she isn’t pregnant. He informs her of Rani staying at their place for a while. Esme asks if she is running from the FEDs. She claims to have gotten into a spat with her parents over her refusal to attend Oxford. Esme says it might be all right, but her bed is off-limits. Christian offers her his bed. When she refuses his offer, Esme suggests they share the bed.

When Christian goes off to make them some food, Esme accuses Rani of trying to get into Christian’s Ninja Turtle boxers. She assures her that isn’t what she is trying to do. Christian convinces Rani to taste something he is preparing from one of his grandmother’s recipes. She describes it as “amazing,” suggesting he start a restaurant. Out of earshot, Esme teasingly mocks Rani.

Lady Gabriella Penrose-Howe (Eleanor Tomlinson) answers her door to find three people standing there. One of the women informs her that they are there for the social media commercial. After getting the day straightened out, she invites them inside.

John Halloran Senior (Ian McElhinney) looks through a window at the busy factory below.

While making breakfast, Myrna Okeke (Clare Perkins) turns around to see a police officer sitting in a chair. After turning away, she takes a second glance to see the chair empty.

Frank Sheldon (Christopher Walken) is searching through a box when Tom (Guillermo Bedward) enters the room. Tom asks if he believes he would stash Money in his bedroom. Frank questions if he blew the money on pornography. He informs him of porn being free online. He refers to his stashing the money in the attack as “lazy.” He tells him of his plan to teach him a lesson by utilizing the money to pay for his mother’s mortgage. Frank warns him that the money needs to be washed before turning over to his mother’s bank. Tom asks if washed means erasing the fingerprints. Frank explains it means to make the money look like it was earned legitimately. He asks how it is done.

Frank says “smurfing” through casinos and offshore shell companies. Tom asks why do it. He explains how to launder money through a casino. He suggests gambling a bit before cashing in to receive a check. Tom agrees to do it. After reminding him that he is only 16, Frank offers to split the cash 80-20. Tom assures him that he will never return the money to him before giving him a plane ticket to Rio.

Gabriella demonstrates how to utilize a soda maker when the liquid spews everywhere. After cursing the machine, she asks if the video turned out okay. One of the women assures her that the manufacturer wouldn’t be thrilled with her “cu**” reference. While Gabriella does a retake, a nude man shows up in the background. The production crew asks for another retake. When she suggests editing the video, the woman informs her that their budget will not support it. She sarcastically asks if anyone has acquired a soda maker. She botches the retake and beats the soda maker to pieces.

Lesley (Elizabeth Dulau) describes John and John Senior’s production model as “old-fashioned.” She suggests a massive overhaul. John Senior tells her their business operations haven’t changed in 40 years. She repeats what John told her about a potential contract with Hilgard Auto Frictions. He assures her that a contract with Graham Hilgard will never happen until he is buried. Reminding him of their financial status, she suggests giving it some thought. After Lesley is asked to step out of the room, John Sr. calls him a “master shooter,” saying it’s similar to taking stolen money. John repeats what Lesley said about their company regressing, not progressing. Agreeing with Lesley about the company having a weak link, he assures him it is the production model.

Gabriella informs Gregory “Greg” Dillard (Stephen Merchant) of a company is refusing to pay her for the advertisement. He reminds her of a clause in her contract that prohibits offensive conduct and comments. She denies breaching the contract. He tells her that she smashed the company soda machine. Anne-Marie (Jessica Boyde) climbs into the elevator with them. He compliments her for biking to work. She complains it left her sweaty. He suggests she doesn’t want a yeast infection. He warns her that “humid crotch conditions” could result in fungus buildup in the vaginal cavity.

Gabriella says it is sweet for Greg to pick up Spencer’s dry cleaning. Spencer (Tom Hanson) explains how they have an agreement that keeps Greg out of prison. She broaches the subject of Greg asking Anne-Marie on a date. He informs her of the company’s policy that prohibits employee dating. Spencer teases him about marrying a “Latvian conman.” Greg changes the subject to her failed soda maker commercial. She threatens to sue the company. He assures her that she doesn’t have the funds to file a lawsuit because her allowance has been frozen. Shocked, she asks when he did it. He says since she destroyed her father’s lawn with her vehicle. Shrugging off his concern, she assures him the grass will grow back. He suggests she stop spending money like a “crazy person.”

He reminds her of a €580 expense for tarot readings. Refusing to stop seeing Madame Orion, she assures him that she has the ability to see things. He asks if Madam Orion saw her finances in bankruptcy by the Christmas season. She agrees to give up the tarot readings. Spencer orders Greg to get him tea and toast. When Greg obliges, Gabriella says he is such a “sweet guy” for doing it.

Diane Pemberley (Jessica Gunning) demonstrates how to do a beep test. Running back and forth, she explains how it is utilized to assess a PSCO’s aerobic output. Frank asks her to define a PCSO. When she says it stands for Police Community Support Officer, Myrna adds it is a supply teacher with less respect and authority. Frank asks if they have the authority to make arrests. She suggests they Google it to determine what authority PSCOs have. Frank asks Christian where a teenager hides things from their parents. Christian tells him his addicted mother is the one who is hiding things. Rani admits hiding her first stolen item in a school locker for fear of her parents discovering what she had done. Gabriella asks Rani and Christian if she needs a hat for their wedding. Rani assures her that they are nothing more than friends. Gabriella points out they are living together. Diane questions if they are lovers. She says they are temporary roommates.

After completing the beep test, Diane asks if anyone else wants to give it a shot. No one volunteers. After everyone is ordered back to work, Rani and Christian are pulled to the side. Diane warns them that she will not turn a blind eye again. She tells Rani that she was like her once, with a hot boyfriend and the envy of her school. She contributes her hot boyfriend to cider and charisma. She informs them of how her hot boyfriend died while driving a stolen car. When she claims his death prompted her to take a 360-degree turn, Rani asks if that put her back to the starting point. Everyone stares at Malaki (Charles Babalola) as he mimics a drive-by shooting. Greg pretends to shoot back. Christian warns him that Malaki has issued death threats to them. Myrna suggests he’s after the money. Rani questions what money.

Christian tells Rani that he stole money, but for her own safety, he refuses to say anything else. She reminds him about being chased by men armed with machetes. Confused, John assumes the money belonged to him because he sold drugs. Myrna asks if Christian being black is why he thought he sold drugs. He assures him it wasn’t his race, but a large amount of money in his possession. Rani asks Christian where the money came from. He admits it belonged to a drug dealer. Greg warns him that they all will be forced to dig their own grave in the desert. Myrna reminds him of England having no deserts. When Rani suggests they give the money back, Myrna admits they spent a lot of it. Greg accuses them of blackmailing him into laundering the money. Gabriella invites them to accompany her to Ergo for the solstice. They look outside to see Diane performing a beep test.

Frank makes a key. Tom complains that his keys are missing. As Margaret (Dolly Wells) suggests checking his bag when Frank drops them into his pocket.

John walks into a meeting with Lesley and John Senior.

Frank walks Holly (Isla Gie) to school. He secretly watches Tom access his locker. After Tom leaves, he opens the locker to find his money. He puts the money in a plastic bag.

Lesley informs John of his father’s decision to approve Hilgard Auto Friction to acquire a minority share of their company. John expresses his relief. She adds that John Senior will maintain his position as CEO, but his position has been terminated. John demands to know if he is being fired. Lesley suggests he not take it personally. He points out that his father can’t fire him because he is the company director. She tells him that the majority shareholders will assume the power to remove the company director. John Senior reminds him of forcing him to join the family trade.

Malaki scolds Souljah (Marcus Fraser) for throwing the pizza box into the recycling bin. Souljah tells him it is made of cardboard. He accuses him of helping to kill the planet. Christian and Greg stop by to discuss the stolen money. Malaki demands to know why Greg is there. Christian informs him of Greg being an attorney. He claims to have an attorney. Greg reminds him of the expensive attorney fees. Christian offers to trade Greg’s services for a partnership to get The Dean off their backs. Greg warns him that their friends will tell The Dean that he tried to screw him over if anything happens to them. Malaki hands him a cellphone.

Holding a gun to a junkie’s head, Christian demands to know how to reach the dean. Christian jerks the phone away from the junkie (Tom Clegg) when it calls The Dean (Claes Bang). He admits to stealing his money before ordering him to get his attack dogs off his back. The Dean warns him that he will find him. Christian asks if he remembers what happened to Spider. The Dean asks if he was responsible. He assures him the same time will happen to anyone who tries to find him. The Dean agrees to his demands.

A CCS operative (Hannah Livingstone) removes Frank’s ankle monitor. Tom tells him that he is now free to go. Margaret tells him that Frank is not going anywhere forever. Holly celebrates. He asks if it would be all right for him to go out for a beer. As he grabs his bag from the closet, he turns to look at his family before leaving.

Rani is watching TV when her mom, Shanthi Rekowski (Nina Wadia) drops off her Mr. Snuggles. They discuss her going to Oxford. Raising her voice, Shanthi asks if she plans to work a crappy job and return home to dump like Christian’s place. Rani refuses her offer to return home.

Rani meets Christian to ask how everything went. He assures her that they are all good. As she prepares to enter Ergo, Gabriella approaches. He asks her to keep an eye on Rani because it is her first club experience. They take a seat at a table when Diane joins them. Gabriella convinces Rani into trying some champagne. She downs it in only a few gulps. Greg joins them.

Frank visits a casino, where he buys a load of chips and plays a few games before trading in his chips for a paper check. He repeats the process at what looks like several other casinos.

After snorting what appears to be coke, Gabriella passes it over to a friend. The coke finally ends up in Rani’s hands, but before she gets to consume any, Gabriella confiscates it. Greg reminds her about the promise she made to reduce her spending. She points out Anne-Marie in a crowd of people. When she approaches, Greg gets himself caught up in a light fixture. She tells him that she hopes the humidity doesn’t cause fungus to build up in her vaginal cavity. After telling Gabriella that Anne-Marie is requesting a photo, he suggests she believes they are an item. She assures him that isn’t the case at all. He pleads with her to make it clear they are not dating.

John returns home to a house full of his friends. Ruth (Amanda Drew) asks where he has been. He gets in his car and drives away.

Myrna returns home to find a police officer sitting in a chair. She turns off the light before leaving.

Rani discusses her being a virgin with Diane who gives her a condom. She assures her that she doesn’t need it. Diane claims her attitude dissolved after a case of gonorrhea. Rani tells her that sex isn’t on her agenda for tonight. Diane asks if it has to do with her being a Muslim. She calls over a cute boy (Caven Alexander) to inform him of them being available to have sex. After explaining what she is willing to do, she warns him that she has direct contact with Detective Sergeant Lucy Haines (Grace Calder).

Greg tells John and Myrna that they don’t seem like the type to hang around clubs. They tell him that they felt the need to get away from home. Gabriella approves more drinks to be added to her tab. When Greg questions if she knows them, she can’t even identify a man. He suggests they aren’t her true friends. She says whatever reason would they have for being there. He refers to them as “moochers.” She fires him after a spat about their friendship. He tries to pay for his drink, but she orders him to leave.

The junkie tries to scavenge some drugs from the trash but finds a business card for Lucy Haines. He dials the number.

Tom opens his bag to discover it is filled with books.

Frank stops by the Ergo to speak with Christian. He assures him that Sasquatch Patsy works every time. Christian asks where he is headed. He informs him of his plan to visit Rio de Janeiro. He gives Christian 50 pounds to deliver some money to Margaret. Christian asks if he is concerned about Margaret hating him for not giving her a proper goodbye. Frank meets the others inside the club. The waitress informs Gabriella that her credit card has been declined.  Gabriella informs her friends of her declined credit cards. They all claim to not have any money. When Frank pays her tab, she tells him that she wishes he was her father because he wouldn’t dare leave her hanging at 1am.

The cab driver asks Frank his desired destination.

Christian puts a drunk Rani to bed. She tries to entice him to sleep with her, but he refuses.

Gabriella walks home to discover an eviction notice on her front door. She angrily curses her father.

Frank returns home to be greeted by an unhappy Tom. He demands to know where the money is at. Margaret admits they were beginning to worry he ran out of them again. He tells her about his plan to pay off her mortgage. When he hands her the checks, she questions their origin. He claims to have won the money. He looks over just in time to see Tom smile.

Rani and Christian have sex.

Gabriella tries to find a place to stay. None of her friends are willing to open their homes to her. She does some coke while sitting alone on the steps.

Christian answers the door to two masked men. A man puts a bag over Rani’s head.

Gabriella visits Greg’s house. She assures him that he was correct about her having no friends. He invites her in.

The junkie tells Lucy Haines that he wants to go to rehab. He refuses to say anything until he gets a guarantee of police protection.

Rani looks over to see Christian and Malaki in restraints. The Dean enters the room. The junkie informs the police of The Dean’s drug activities. The Dean offers his hostages if they would like some tea. He assures Rani he knows about her Oxford scholarship and everything else about her. Malaki and Christian deny stealing his money. He informs them that Souljah is a witness to the theft. Souljah tells Malaki that he is tired of being mistreated by him. They get into a spat, but The Dean breaks it up. The Dean tells them that he only hates one thing worse than thieves before breaking Malaki’s leg. One of his men drags a screaming Malaki out of the room.

When The Dean places a plastic bag over Christian’s head, Rani promises to repay the money. Christian is struggling to breathe inside the plastic bag as Rani promises to help him launder his drug money. She pleads with him to give them eight weeks to get the money. He asks how she will manage to do it. After removing the bag, he offers her a ginger nut as the episode comes to an end.

The Outlaws Review

The first episode of the second season didn’t disappoint. It was packed full of action, not a moment wasted on filler. While some of the jokes fell flat, each member of the cast put their best foot forward.

The show is about much more than stolen drug money. It is filled with life’s lessons. On one hand, you have parents who are trying to force their daughter to attend Oxford against her wishes. On another hand, you have a wealthy parent who tries to teach his daughter a lesson by cutting her off. Everyone could learn a thing or two from watching the show.

The crew capitalized on every second of the episode. There wasn’t a moment when I felt like yawning. I do wish, the pace was a bit slower to give my brain time to process everything.
