After watching The Real Housewives of Atlanta reunion, I actually feel bad for Kim Zolciak-Biermann, who just can’t seem to defend herself out of the box she built. In fact, while breaking down in tears during a conversation with Andy Cohen, she even goes so far as to suggest that before social media, “Racism wasn’t all that real.” I can only assume she means that social media tends to unreasonably amplify issues, such as a misunderstanding. Instead of teaching moments, there’s bandwagon bullies, and no one learns anything from bullies. Unfortunately for Kim, she did not express her point with this degree of clarity, and the media pounced.

The issue in question between Kim Zolciak-Biermann and NeNe Leakes began when Kim’s daughter went to Leakes’ home, and she posted a video of a roach she spotted . In response, Leakes said, “It sounds very racial when you are speaking to an African-American person and talk about roaches, because people feel like you associated that with the ghetto or trash. Black people do not receive that very well.” Though Kim is certainly responsible for her words and actions toward others (which are often negative), the essence of RHOA is mean-spirited attacks on other women, and the poor behavior running through the show is too much to handle. In fact, at one point Leakes told Biermann to correct her double chin next time she goes to the plastic surgeon. And that’s just a modicum of the melee. I need not mention Porsha’s cartoonish crown, and the extent to which the show has corrupted her. Kim should have owned this as pure ignorance and apologized. But she can’t seem to apologize, and the endless attacks didn’t help.

In fairness, the Housewives have always been known for negativity among women, but it has reached an unbearable boiling point as far as I’m concerned, and I’d actually swap out the entire cast were I producing the show.
