Failure To Launch Anxiety And Cognitive Therapies

By Ronald Olson

When it comes to the need for psychotherapy, there are often a number of reasons why this might be the case. When it comes to Failure To Launch Anxiety Syndrome, in some cases cognitive behavioral therapies can be helpful. Whereas, in others, there may need to be a combination of psychotherapy and medication. Whatever the case, those suffering from this issue often need ongoing support. For, there are many suffering from this condition whom can not leave home or function in public due to the debilitating nature of the syndrome.

Studies have shown that when it comes to this condition, cognitive treatments are often the most helpful. For, when treating individuals based on the improvement of a syndrome as instructed in a manual rather than personal experiences, it can often be difficult to see how far those individuals have come. As such, there are a number of issues which need be considered when treating someone with this condition.

These issues include whether an individual is feeling happier, has a connection to the real world and can leave home and function in public. In addition, it is essential that if and when doing so, the individual have a clear understanding of the difference between reality and imagination. If so, many can often learn how to take care of personal responsibilities such as taking public transportation, grocery shopping and going to events and medical appointments.

Relationships with friends, lovers and family members is an important aspect of life for these individuals. For, often the more acceptance and love the individual receives, the better. Man of those effected by the syndrome are at important life stages. For example, moving from childhood into teenage years or teenage years into adulthood. In either case, there are a lot of hormonal changes going on in the body whether male or female which can effect the anxiety levels associated with the condition.

Talk therapy is not often enough to keep these individuals on-track on an ongoing basis. In most cases, there will still need to be ongoing therapy. When taking medication, it is important to obtain a review to determine whether or not there may need to be a change based on changes in the level anxiety an individual may be suffering at any given time.

Also, the first time an individual leaves home for the first time after having been housebound, a chaperon is often recommended. For, it can often be overwhelming when stepping back out into public for the first time. Whether going to a grocery, taking a bus or attending an event, a chaperon can often make the experience far more enjoyable for the individual.

When going out for the first time, if an individual needs to turn back due to anxiety, it is important to do so. For, while some individuals can handle these outings in time, not all can. As such, it is important to recognize and support individual needs on a daily basis.

In some cases, a cognitive approach can provide a great deal more freedom to those suffering from anxiety and other related issues. Whereas, there are some individuals whom might never be able to function in public individually or with a chaperon. In most cases, the ability to do so is determined by whether or not an individual can let go of fears and attachments, whether due to past traumas or chemical imbalances in the brain.
