Thank you Kentaro Miura. Rest in peace.

I never really spoke about Berserk, mainly because not only do I geek out and could talk about it for hours I just wanted to see it finished before I could give it the justice that it deserves but it seems that I will never be able to do that. But instead of talking about that I would rather just pay my respects to the man who changed the lives of many people.

I woke up today and saw something that I could never expect:

[Report of the death of Professor Kentaro Miura] Dr. Kentaro Miura, the author of “Berserk”, passed away on May 6, 2021 due to acute aortic dissection. We would like to express our utmost respect and gratitude to Dr. Miura’s painting work and pray for his soul. May 20, 2021 Hakusensha Co., Ltd. Young Animal Editorial Department

I still can not believe it. I saw the news and can not believe it. I literally decided 2 weeks ago to finish the manga, I had around 60 chapters left and finished reading it. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that he died at that time.

Berserk is one of the best Fictional Worlds that I have ever came across. I always loved diving deep into fictional worlds, making and reading theories, reading up about the lore of the characters and what inspired the author to make them, and berserk had all of that. A wonderful and complex world that you could get lost in that teaches you to say “fuck you” to destiny and faith and to carve your own path and many other things. A world full of breathtaking artwork that could hang on any museum wall and no one would be surprised:

He also created one of the best protagonists and antagonists. To make so many people absolutely love Guts and get inspired by him and despise a fictional character like Griffith so much is a feat only few can do. It is no wonder that his work inspired so many other creators and franchises. It is safe to say that he left a huge mark on the world of fiction that will never be forgotten.

My mind is all over the place so I can’t really do him justice in a single post but although I am very sad that his story will never be finished I am very happy to have experienced it. I loved journeying alongside Guts and watching him grow and for that I will forever be grateful to him. A genius at work and it really inspires me to make something even half as good as what he has created. I am sure that his work will be remembered long after he is gone. It fills my heart with joy seeing so many people celebrate his work on social media and I am sure he would have been overjoyed to see that.

Creativity like his is what makes me love this world. As much as I hate many things about it, one of my favorite things is the human imagination and the things that it can produce. The mind of Miura was one of the prime examples of this. So for that I want to thank him for creating something so amazing and touching the hearts of thousands if not millions of people worldwide. R.I.P. Miura, you will be missed.
