Sunset society – movie review

When I came across the trailer for this film I thought it was a troll or something. However the movie is very real and um…Yeah. I have no words.

A vampire movie starring Lemmy Kilmister, Ron Jeremy as well as having Dizzy Reed, Steve O and many other stars in it. What could go wrong?

At the start of the film we see two men as they torture a vampire in order to obtain a CD from him containing some sort of film that features Ace (played by Lemmy), the head vampire in charge of a secret group called Sunset society. But before they could finish the job and kill him a woman called Sophia (played by the director and writer Phoebe Dollar) and gives them the CD in order to save him. Once freed they play the CD and we see Ace, who likes to keep the fun going while keeping the profile low for his group of select few. However, some of the members of the club can’t seem to resist and go off killing people freely and humans are starting to catch on to their vampire ways.

I don’t even know where to start with this movie. I knew from the trailer itself that it wasn’t going to be anything special and I did not take it seriously when I started watching it and even then it was very hard to digest. The acting was abysmal, the music was somewhat okay (with a few bad exceptions) and the camerawork, lighting was pretty bad as well and I don’t even know what they were thinking when writing the script. But for some reason I kept watching it. Maybe it was because of Lemmy or my own weird curiosity to see how the movie will end but I finished it and to be fair some of the corniness and low budget did kind of work in favor of the film. The ending came as a bit of a surprise and was unexpected. I won’t spoil it unless you want to skip the movie (which you probably will) and just want to know what happens. One thing I liked was the character of Sophia, which unlike the other characters had some redeeming qualities.

Final verdict: A generous 5/10
