Yep. You read that title right. This is a two issue comic book crossover between Top Cow and Dark Horse.

So while in the Predator mood I was looking for something different that I could cover since everyone is excited about the new movie and is talking about it.

So I came across this. Overkill: Witchblade/Aliens/Darkness/Predator is a two-issue limited crossover comic book series that was first published by Dark Horse Comics, Top Cow Productions and Image Comics from November-December 1999 written by Paul Jenkins and illustrated by y Clarence Lansang, Joe Benitez and Brian Ching, inked by Victor Llamas, Alp Altiner, Matt Banning and Jay Leisten, colored by Dan Kemp and Matt Milla, lettered by Dennis Heisler and Robin Spehar, and edited by Renae Geerlings, Matt Hawkins, Jason Ross and David Wohl, with cover art by Lansang, Kemp and Llamas.

The comic series stars as the title says: The darkness (Jackie Estacado) and Witchblade (Sara Pezzini) who find themselves in a troublesome situation where xenomorphs want to hatch their eggs in Sara’s city. Jackie seems to be feeling and looking for something but he does not know that it is. While looking into some leads the predator notices them and tries hunting them down.

There is not much else to the plot. It’s a small limited series that is full of gore and fan service. As a big predator and alien fan I knew that I had to check it out. I’ve been getting into The darkness series as well and I really like the concept as well as Jackie the main character but the comic never seems to be able to reel me in that much and I keep dropping it. I will have to finish it some day though. Sara is a great character as well and I will have to look into the Witchblade comic series as well.

The comic also had a sequel story called Mindhunter comprising of three issues which I enjoyed more than the first one.

In this one Jackie and Sara are abducted and trapped in a realm of illusory violence and bottomless time. They form an alliance and rip through layers of false realities to discover that they’re imprisoned on a huge, living spacecraft high in Earth’s orbit – an ever-changing prison ship controlled by the mind of a madman. While inside they find out that they are trapped with a swarm of aliens and have to form another alliance with a predator.

I would give the first one a 6/10 and the second one a 7. It’s a short story but it does the job. As with every other crossover series it’s job is to showcase different characters from different worlds interact with each other. It was not the best one but it was enjoyable. The illustration was great. I’ve always been a fan of the art style that the darkness comics had. Should you read it?
