I’ll be honest. The trailer did not really reel me in. The only reason I watched this movie was because I really like Taissa Farmiga

The Final Girls is a 2015 American slasher comedy film directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson and written by M.A. Fortin and Joshua John Miller starring Taissa Farmiga, Nina Dobrev, Malin Akerman and a rich supporting cast composed of  Adam DeVine, Thomas Middleditch, Alia Shawkat, Alexander Ludwig, Chloe Bridges, and Angela Trimbur.

Max (Taissa Farmiga) and her mother (Malin Akerman) who is a horror movie star known for “Camp Bloodbath” are driving in a car and having fun returning home. However on their way there they get into an accident which results in the passing of her mother. Three years later, during the anniversary of her passing she gets invited to a screening of the Camp bloodbath 1 and 2 movies. She is reluctant but in the end gets persuaded to go. While attending it a freak accident transports her and a couple of her friends to the film itself. With no way out they are forced to follow the rules of the movie and go along with the story. Something which is very hard for Max since one of the people in the movie is the character played by her mother.

I did expect this film to be a bad movie and even though I did end up enjoying the film it really wasn’t anything special. There was some really amazing cinematography and music and the acting was fairly decent, with the exception of Adam DeVine who I can’t seem to stand in anything that I’ve seen him. The concept itself was great and they manage to make fun of 80s slashers quite effectively. The killer himself is an obvious homage to Jason Voorhees and during the film they reveal that the only time that he shows up is when people start having sex which was hilarious.

It’s not a perfect movie, it definitely has some flaws like it’s PG-13 rating that put me off but surprisingly it’s enjoyable and a movie that I would watch again. If they ever end up doing a sequel I hope they give it a better rating which would greatly improve it. In order to successfully parody the 80s horror slashers PG-13 is a very bad choice and it ruined it’s full potential.

Final verdict: an undeserved 7/10
