Colder – comic book review

Colder – Comic Book Review

Colder is a five part mini series written by Paul Tobin, illustrated by Juan Ferreyra and published by Dark Horse comics in 2012-2013.

We meet Reece, a young nurse in Boston who takes care of a man called Declan who is an ex-inmate of an insane asylum who has a very low body temperature to the point where he should not be alive anymore. Due to the closing of the clinic Reece decides to take care of him and takes him to her house, however Declan does not move, talk or interact with anything. That is until we are introduced to the character called Nimble Jack. Nimble Jack is a multidimensional being who feeds on the insanity of human beings. Seeing him again seems to wake up Declan and he goes to talk to Reece about him and his stay in the insane asylum. He tells her a crazy story about a fire in an asylum as well as some weird experiments that the doctors were doing on him about half of a century ago as well as  explaining why he never once said anything while she was taking care of him. Apparently he was hiding from Nimble Jack because Jack was keeping him or aging him like fine wine in order to feast on his insanity. From there we see them trying to evade Nimble Jack.

Although short, Colder is a very well made comic book series. The story line is amazing and intense, the art is chilling and very well made, the characters are interesting and intriguing, especially Nimble Jack who is very creepy, interesting and really steals the show. The only bad thing about this series would be the pacing at times and parts of the dialogue, other than that nothing else really stands out negatively. There are a few other things I loved as well but they are in the heavy spoiler territory so I don’t want to get into it. Feel free to check it out below if it peaked your interest and let me know if you enjoyed it.

Final verdict: 7.5/10
