‘The Walking Dead’ To Take Us To New Countries?

Tags: walking

Could we see a new spin-off of The Walking Dead take place in another continent? At the moment it’s not unlikely that we will see one in the future.

It was creator of the franchise and writer of the Comic series Robert Kirkman who first spoke out regarding taking The Walking Dead to new lands. He confirmed that there have been discussions that have taken place regarding the idea, and he didn’t rule it out.

“It’s something we’ve discussed from time to time, and we have seen a bit of Mexico in Fear the Walking Dead,” Kirkman said.

He continued, “I don’t really plan to expand things in the comic side of things ever, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we eventually do something internationally in the TV space.”

Former showrunner on TWD Scott Gimple, who has now been promoted chief content officer at AMC, touched on the subject of taking the franchise international, saying that his team have a bunch of ideas in mind for the future.

“We have a bunch of different things in mind,” he said. “Some things that are really complimentary to the stuff we’re doing now and some stuff that’s far afield and very different.”

The new showrunner  of The Walking Dead will be former co-executive producer Angela Kang, who was promoted into this position. Angela Kang joined in The Walking Dead writing staff in Season 2 as a Story Editor. She then went on to become co-Executive Producer by Season 5 till season 8. In season 9 she will act as showrunner. No pressure.

Aside from AMC taking the franchise international, there has also been talk regarding producing additional spin-offs which could include characters we have already seen in the main series. We have already seen the success of Fear The Walking Dead which, in terms of ratings, is out-shining the main series at the moment.

Fan-favorite Morgan, played by Lennie James, is the first to make the switch from The Walking Dead to Fear The Walking Dead and it seems he won’t be the only one to appear in different shows in the franchise with Scott Gimple teasing that the new spin-off shows could include characters we already know.
