Here’s the second part of our list of the best beauty pageants for 2017. 

5. Miss Earth Venezuela

The first-ever edition of Miss Earth Venezuela was held last year to tremendous success. The separate pageant dedicated to Miss Earth was organized by former Miss Earth titleholder Alyz Henrich and Julio César Cruz.

The maiden edition was a rating success for broadcaster Globovision. The finals show received an overwhelming 52.36% audience share, an amazing feat for a young and first time pageant.

Miss Earth Venezuela is one of the success stories of 2017 and is a proof that a separate pageant for Miss Earth can also be successful. The winner of the national competition, Ninoska Vasquez competed in the Philippines for the Miss Earth crown against 82 other delegates.

Ninoska placed in the Top 8, shy of the Top 4 finish of her predecessor. But her crowning is a historic one as Miss Earth Venezuela has proved that it can provide viable competition to the legendary Miss Venezuela pageant.

4. Miss France

The Miss France pageant is arguably the most glamorous and fabulous national pageants. From the stage design, production values, and the incredible costumes to the gorgeous set of contestants and the luxurious crown and prize packages, Miss France got it all.

Formed in 1920, Miss France is also rich in history and the finals night is being produced annually by television company Endemol. It holds local and regional entrants for the many hopefuls in France and its overseas departments.

Regarding production values alone, Miss France can already rival the international beauty pageants where its winners are being sent. The pageant is a testament to the entire planet of the elegance and glamour that the French are known for.

3. Miss World

The oldest and longest-running international beauty competition on the planet introduced this year an innovation, the so-called Head-to-head Challenge. This round was devised to allow more exposures to the candidates, allowing fans and pageant followers to get to know them better.

This has been added together with the Fast Track events to determine the Top 40 contestants who will make it to the first cut.

Being the oldest does not mean that Miss World should leave the younger ones doing the innovations to pageants to make it more relevant, especially in this day and age of digitalization. The London-based pageant has been the true definition of reinvention, growing stronger and more stable than ever before.

The 2017 edition was definitely better in all aspects compared to its previous edition in 2016 held in Washington, D.C.

2. Miss Universe

While the preliminary show in Las Vegas was heavily criticized for being a far cry of the previous edition, which was amazingly provided by the people of the Philippines, Miss Universe still came up with the best and most entertaining production when it comes to the finals night. The 2017 edition was also the biggest in its entire history, with 92 contestants competing for the prestigious crown.

From the musical score selection to choreography, and up to the camera works, Miss Universe bested everyone else. No one comes close to the excitement that Miss Universe brings to the table.

2017 saw the introduction of the new format of Miss Universe, which was welcomed positively by many fans. The semifinalists were chosen based on the geographical locations, plus additional wildcard entries voted by the organization.

The new system provided the diversity that Miss Universe needed the most as the pageant has been overwhelmingly dominated by Latinas or those from South America regarding number for the past few years. Now, we have seen Europeans and Asians in sufficient number, making it to the Top 16 and the Top 10.

1. Miss Earth

And the best pageant of 2017 is none other than, the only environmentally-themed major pageant — Miss Earth.

2017 has been a very big year for Miss Earth. The pageant has introduced so many innovations in its selection process, and the most controversial of all is the veiled presentation of the candidates for the Body and Figure round. Many criticized the veil, alleging that its one way of objectifying women.

But the Miss Earth Organization stuck with the concept, arguing that in such manner, objectivity and fairness could be attained as judges would focus on the set criteria alone.

2017 also saw the best edition so far of Miss Earth, getting thumbs up from fans and critics alike. The opening number was very imaginative, and the concept was very fresh for a beauty pageant. And to top it all, Miss Earth also had the third largest participation among the 2017 international competitions, following the giants that Miss World (118) and Miss Universe (92).
