Graphic design is more than just making something look good — it’s also about making something work. Many Graphic designers are tasked with creating designs that don’t just look great, but also help sell a product or service, or convey an important message.

But before you can become the next iconic graphic designer, you’ll need to choose the right Software for your needs. There are many platforms for graphic design out there, and each one has its own strengths and weaknesses.

If you’re looking for a simple program to create a few logos or graphics on your Mac or PC, a free Tool like Canva might be perfect for you. But if you’re working on a large video project that requires high-quality images and advanced special effects, Adobe Premier Pro might be worth the investment.

To create designs, graphics and illustrations, you can use a vector-based software like Adobe Illustrator to achieve the best results. In this guide, we’ve reviewed the top graphic design software solutions on the market.

The programs we’ve included are industry-standard tools that can be used to create beautiful designs, logos and illustrations. We’ve done all of the research for you and put together a list of the best graphic design software options in 2022.

We also included a buying guide so you can understand what features and functionalities these programs offer.

Best Graphic Design Software – Introduction

The best graphic design software is the one that meets your project needs. That said, here are a couple of common scenarios: You’re a professional graphic designer, working for agencies or freelancing for clients and need a comprehensive toolset to create high-quality visual content and present it to clients.

Whatever the case may be, you want something that’s easy to use and has enough features to meet your needs. Choosing the best graphic design software for your needs can seem daunting.

There are hundreds of products to choose from, and most have overlapping functionality The good news is that there are now more free graphic design tools than ever before. So if you’re just starting out and don’t have the budget to invest in software, you can get going with these freebies.

If you’re a seasoned professional, you’ll find that many of the paid-for programs have free trials and/or subscription options, so you can try before you buy — or pay as you go.

What is the Best Graphic Design Software?

What is the best graphic design software? The answer, of course, it depends on what you’re looking for. Do you want to design a poster in your browser? Create an animation with vector graphics? How about designing a logo or working with 3D models?

We’ve got plenty of advice for getting started in graphic design.

1. Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop is a raster graphics editor developed and published by Adobe Systems for macOS and Windows. Photoshop was created in 1988 by Thomas and John Knoll.

Since then, it has become the de facto industry standard in raster graphics editing, such that the word “photoshop” has become a verb as in “to Photoshop an image,” “photoshopping” and “photoshop contest”, though Adobe discourages such use. It can edit and compose raster images in multiple layers and supports masks, alpha compositing and several color models including RGB, CMYK, CIELAB, spot color and duotone. Photoshop has vast support for graphic file formats but also uses its own PSD and PSB file formats which support all the aforementioned features.

In addition to raster graphics, it has limited abilities to edit or render text, vector graphics (especially through clipping path), 3D graphics and video. Photoshops featureset can be expanded by plug-ins; programs developed and distributed independently of Photoshop that can run inside it and offer new or enhanced features.

The two versions of Photoshop were in a non-subscription based perpetual license until December 1, 2013 with the introduction of Creative Cloud branding whereby both versions are now available

Features

Adobe Photoshop is one of the older and most well-known photo editing tools available. With its advanced features and user-friendly interface, it has become the industry standard for creating, editing, and manipulating images.

Here are some of the features that make Adobe Photoshop a great choice for photo editing: Editing capabilities. You can crop, resize, adjust color and brightness, apply filters and effects, and more to your images.

Compatibility. Photoshop is compatible with many different file types and file formats, including .psd (Photoshop Document), .pdf (Portable Document Format), .png (Portable Network Graphics), .gif (Graphic Interchange Format), and more.

Compatibility with other programs. Adobe Photoshop comes with many companion programs including Lightroom, Illustrator, Bridge, InDesign, Premiere Pro and many more that allow you to create stunning photos as well as other types of graphics.

Pros

Photoshop pros are people who are great at using Adobe Photoshop. They do things like this: ![image](https://i.imgur.com/I7Vu8jK.gif) They have superpowers, like being able to turn anyone into a cat … or a cow? I don’t know, honestly, who can keep track of all the animals they can turn people into?

The Adobe InCopy word processor uses the same formatting engine as InDesign. InDesign was previously available as part of the Creative Suite. As of CS5 (released April 2010), there is no longer a “bundled” version available; it is only sold as a standalone product or part of one of two versions of Creative Cloud (see below).

6. Sketch

I love Sketch. It’s by far my favorite tool for UI design. Although I’ve only been using it for a few years, I can’t imagine going back to Photoshop. The best part is that it makes me more efficient and saves a ton of time.

Sketch has completely changed the way I approach UI design. The first thing I dowhen starting a new project is decide on a layout and then get the basic structure done with boxes and text. While doing this, I also figure out how many layers I need and group them into folders like Header, Footer etc. Sketch makes this so easy and intuitive that it’s almost fun to do!

I usually start with wireframes because it helps me focus on content structure without getting distracted by other details like colors or fonts right away. After creating wireframes, I add in all the visual elements such as buttons and icons which are provided by Sketch itself (or downloaded from Noun Project).

Next up is deciding on color palette and typography. Once again, I use Sketch’s built-in tools to create a list of all possible color combinations before picking one as my primary theme.

Features

Sketch is a design toolkit built to help you create your best work — from your earliest ideas, through to final artwork. Boolean Operations Combine basic shapes to create complex shapes with Boolean operations.

You can also cut and divide shapes. Vector Editing Create beautiful complex shapes with our advanced vector boolean operations and winding-rule settings. Smart Distribute and Layout features make laying out multiple objects easy. SVG Export

Generate compact, clean SVG code that you can copy and paste straight into your web projects. Use Sketch’s powerful exporting options to export your designs at 1x, 2x or 3x sizes, as PNG, TIFF or JPG files, in black and white or color, in any resolution you need.
