What Are comedy movies?

What Are comedy movies?

What are comedy movies? Comedy movies are basically a type of film that is meant to be entertaining and funny. They are different from other types of film because they use jokes to keep the audience interested.

Trying to define what popular comedy movies are can be a bit tricky. This is because there are so many different types of comedy out there. You can have the slapstick, gross-out and even romantic comedy. There isn’t one particular answer to the question of what popular comedy movies are because the genre consists of so many different types of movie.

One thing that most comedy movies have in common is that they each has a sense of humor. The jokes in them may be on different subjects but it is always there. You don’t have to find a good joke funny for it to still be considered a comedy movie though. Some people find certain parts funny while others don’t even smile at them, but they all still qualify as comedy movies.

There are a lot of different types of comedy movies but they all fall under typical categories like the romantic comedy or action/adventure kind of movie. Here is the list:

Best Comedy Movies

There are so many movies that it can be hard to choose a comedy. Which is the best comedy movie of all time? What is the funniest movie ever? What’s the best comedy movie of 2017? In this post, you’ll find out which movies are the most popular, as well as learn about some of the all-time greatest comedies.

A number of factors make a great comedy. The cast and crew, the plot and jokes all have to work together to make an audience laugh. The top rated comedy movies are those which are still funny after repeat viewings, and have stood the test of time.

The first factor that comes into play when ranking the best comedy movies is whether or not they made people laugh when they were released. Films like “Anchorman” and “Spinal Tap” were both critically acclaimed and landed on numerous top ten lists.

They also raked in millions at the box office, making them two of the most successful comedies ever made.

It’s important to note that while a good comedy should make you laugh out loud, a great one will leave you laughing long after it has ended.

Zoolander is a 2001 American comedy film directed by Ben Stiller and starring Stiller, Owen Wilson and Will Ferrell. The film’s plot revolves around a dimwitted, narcissistic male model who is brainwashed to kill the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

With a budget of $28 million, production began in New York City in June 2000. A controversy arose over the film’s production in Malaysia, when Islamic groups protested against the portrayal of Malaysia as an international drug trafficking center.

The film was released on February 12, 2001 in the United States, received generally positive reviews from critics and grossed $60.1 million worldwide against its $28 million production budget.

A satire on the fashion industry, Zoolander also focuses on the shallow nature of celebrity culture. Blazing Saddles (1974)

The movie begins with a behind-the-scenes look at the production. Cleavon Little, Gene Wilder, and Harvey Korman are interviewed as they ride horses across a desert landscape

. They are asked if they are worried that the film will be too controversial and nobody will come see it. Everyone laughs off these suggestions, with the exception of Little, who says that some people might be offended.

A series of production outtakes then illustrate Little’s concern. In one scene, for example, a group of extras is supposed to ride in to save Little from getting his butt kicked by the bad guys, but they clearly do not want to be there and can barely get their horses to go in the right direction

. The extras complain about getting sand in their eyes and seem indifferent to whether Cleavon gets his butt kicked or not.

After this, we hear several voices saying things like “I am not funny” and “why did I take this part?” The camera pans over to reveal these voices belong to Mel Brooks (as director), Madeline Kahn (as Lili Von Schtupp), and Gene Wilder (as Jim)

. They agree that the movie is unwatchable, but decide to finish it anyway because they don’t want anyone else getting.

Bridesmaids (2011)

Bridesmaids is a movie about friendship, but it’s also a movie about weddings. Like the title says, it’s about the people you ask to be in your wedding party more than it’s about the wedding itself.

The main character in Bridesmaids is Kristen Wiig’s Annie, who is getting married to her boyfriend of seven years, despite the fact that they’re not all that compatible.

He thinks she’s too uptight, and she thinks he’s too immature. When he proposes to her by giving her a card during his break from his nursing school class, Annie immediately accepts because she doesn’t want to lose him.

When her friends find out about the engagement, they’re not exactly thrilled for her. They don’t think the proposal was romantic in any way and are worried that Annie will wind up being unhappy. While Annie thinks this is crazy –

why wouldn’t someone want to get married? – her friends convince her she needs to take some time to figure out whether or not she really wants to go through with this. And if she does decide to go ahead with it, they think she should have some fun first.

Annie begins by trying to make all of the decisions involved with planning a wedding on her own since the rest.

Play It Again, Sam (1972)

“Play It Again, Sam” is a 1972 black and white romantic comedy film directed by Herbert Ross and written by Woody Allen, starring Allen as a famous film director and Diane Keaton as his fan. The film was shot on location in San Francisco, California.

On the commentary track for the 2005 DVD release of this film, Allen says that the idea behind “Play It Again, Sam” came from an incident in New York City when he was approached by a young woman on the street who told him she had enjoyed one of his films and would like to meet him.

He agreed to meet her at a nearby cafe, but when he arrived at their meeting place he saw a group of women standing around waiting for him. Allen began dating actress Louise Lasser during the production of this movie, and they were married in March 1973.

The film opened on Christmas Day 1972 in New York City; upon its release it was panned by critics and did not perform well at the box office. However, over time it has gained something of a cult following among movie fans and Woody Allen enthusiasts because of its witty dialogue and the performances of its cast.[2] Film critic Roger Ebert added “Play It Again, Sam” to his Great Movies list in April 2010.

Tootsie (1982)

Tootsie (1982) is a film starring Dustin Hoffman. When he loses a role in a soap opera because they think he’s gay, he impersonates a woman so he can get the part. The film also stars Jessica Lange, Teri Garr, and Dabney Coleman.

This movie was nominated for 7 Oscars but won none. It was directed by Sydney Pollack and written by Larry Gelbart. It was rated R for adult situations/language.

This movie is on Netflix streaming and Amazon Prime instant video.

“Tootsie” is a comedy with a light touch. It’s not slapstick; it doesn’t have gross-out humor, bathroom jokes or heavy-duty language. It’s just a sweet, funny look at the way people treat each other, and the way we all wish we could be treated.

Description: Dustin Hoffman stars as Michael Dorsey, a talented but difficult actor who can’t get work because he’s such a jerk.

His agent (Charles Durning) suggests he might have better luck as a woman — after all, female actors are in much shorter supply than male ones — so Dorsey decides to become Dorothy Michaels, an actress with “the face of an angel and the heart of a whore.”

The Film Itself (5/5):

Ghostbusters (1984) is a really good film that I watched when I was younger on VHS; however, this movie wasn’t one that I watched until it came to Blu-ray because I found it to be more entertaining than I did during my childhood years.

The story that’s presented with this film is something that I had absolutely no clue about prior to watching it; and it’s definitely one of those films that audiences can watch time and time again without ever growing tired of.

Young Frankenstein (1974)

Young Frankenstein is a 1974 American comedy horror film directed by Mel Brooks. The screenplay was written by Brooks, from a story by Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks. It is an adaptation of the 1935 film of the same name, which was based on Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel Frankenstein; or

, The Modern Prometheus.Like the original film, Young Frankenstein lampoons the story of Frankenstein and various elements of German Expressionist cinema while also spoofing many other classic monster movies.

Murnau’s character’s daughter in the original film), Gene Hackman as Inspector Kemp, Clifton Davis as Omi/Oscar and Kenneth Mars as Judge Henry. Four Lions (2010)

Four Lions is a 2010 comedy movie about four bumbling British terrorists who want to bomb the London Marathon. It’s a dark comedy that doesn’t have any mean-spirited jokes in it, but it is still pretty funny. It’s also a satire of modern jihad and the problems it faces. The movie was directed by Chris Morris, and the script was written by Morris and Sam Bain (who co-wrote the TV show Peep Show).

Description: Four Lions follows four young men who live together in a suburb of London and are part of a terrorist cell planning an attack on innocent civilians in England. They are all devoutly religious, but they’re not very good at being terrorists

Duck Soup is a 1933 political satire directed by Leo McCarey and written by Bert Kelmer and Harry Ruby. The film stars the Four Marx Brothers: Groucho, Harpo, Chico, and Zeppo (Harpo replaces Zeppo for the film after he was injured in an automobile accident) and also features Raquel Torres and Louis Calhern

Dr Strangelove: Or, How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb (1964)

The Cold War with the USSR was on. The USA had just started a process that would eventually lead to putting a man on the Moon. Then, out of nowhere, a movie came out that showed an insane general blowing up the world with nuclear weapons as his own personal revenge for being passed over for a promotion.

The movie is Dr Strangelove or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb (1964), directed by Stanley Kubrick, and starring Peter Sellers, George C Scott and Slim Pickens. It’s satire at its best, and one of my favourite movies ever.

This movie is about the Cuban Missile Crisis, but not in the way you’d think. It’s about a different Cuban Missile Crisis. There was another crisis involving Cuba in 1962 that you may not have heard about. In this version of events

, President Kennedy did not agree to remove US missiles from Turkey after Kruschev agreed to remove Russian missiles from Cuba. Instead Khrushchev decided to install missiles in Cuba without telling anyone – including Castro – who he assumed would be okay with it because he was a Communist too.*

It’s also about America believing that it was better than Communism and would win if it could just do what it wanted without any regard for human

Page is a high-strung advertising executive who has to travel to New York City to meet with his boss and the clients of his firm.

Trip starts out well enough with Neal Page taking the train from Chicago to New York City. But trouble arises when he misses his connection flight to New York and is forced to rent a car in order to get there on time.

The car that he rents is an old clunker from the local Rent-a-Wreck company owned by Del Griffith (played by John Candy). The trip does not go well for Neal Page as he gets lost in the middle of nowhere and ends up being stranded on the side of the highway. Del Griffith comes back with a tractor trailer and tows him to Chicago.

When Neal Page finally reaches New York City, he is late to his meeting and loses his job. His boss tells him that if he makes it back within two hours, he would give him another chance. Thus begins his second trip across country, this time by plane.

Trading Places (1983)

Trading Places is a 1983 comedy film directed by John Landis, starring Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy. The film was written by Aykroyd and the story was conceived from a suggestion by Murphy.

It follows two rich commodities brokers who become involved in a bet with a homeless street hustler, resulting in the latter becoming the former’s butler and the former becoming the latter’s gardener.

Characterized as an “urban, contemporary social comedy”,[3] Trading Places features supporting roles by Ralph Bellamy, Don Ameche, Denholm Elliott, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Kevin Spacey.[4

] It also features cameo appearances by Duke Snyder (who plays Roper), one of the real-life Duke brothers who owned the commodity brokerage firm where Bellamy’s character Louis Winthorpe III worked; Eddie Murphy’s father Vernon (who plays Richard Pryor Sr.)[5] ; and comedian Paul Mooney as the underground slave trader.

The film earned $90 million against its $25 million budget,[6][7] becoming one of the highest grossing films of 1983.[8]

The film has been noted for its commentary on race relations,[9][10][11] although some reviewers have noted that it is “more.

Some Like It Hot (1959)

Some Like It Hot is a 1959 American romantic comedy film set in 1929, directed and produced by Billy Wilder, starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon. The supporting cast includes George Raft, Pat O’Brien, Joe E. Brown, Joan Shawlee and Nehemiah Persoff. It was Wilder’s first color film.

Description: Some Like It Hot is a romantic comedy that follows two musicians (Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon) who dress in drag as women to escape the mob after witnessing the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre. It was shot from October 15 to November 23, 1958.

Tone: This film is an example of the screwball comedy genre that dominated Hollywood for the first half of the 20th century. A key feature of these films was fast paced dialogue combined with unpredictable plots where anything could happen at any moment. The characters often showed a lack of respect for social conventions.

The film frequently breaks the fourth wall by having characters make remarks to camera on what they are doing or what they would do next. This device was used in many other films throughout the period such as “It Happened One Night” (1934). In “Some Like it Hot,” this device is used when Daphne tells

Dumb & Dumber (1994)

Tim Carrey, Jeff Daniels, Lauren Holly, and Laurie Holden star in this comedy about two idiots who are hired by a millionaire to find his long-lost daughter. Dumb & Dumber was a critical and commercial smash and remains one of the most beloved comedies of the ’90s.

Dumb & Dumber is considered responsible for Carrey’s rise to stardom. Preceding Ace Ventura: Pet Detective by just a couple months, this film proved that the goofy, rubber-faced comedian could do more than star in family films like The Mask.

It also proved that Carrey could be a box office draw, as the film grossed over $127 million dollars against a budget of just $16 million.

A large part of the movie’s success comes from its simple plot and formulaic elements. Lloyd Christmas (Carrey) and Harry Dunne (Daniels) are two good-natured but incredibly stupid friends who set out on an epic road trip to return a briefcase belonging to Harry’s boss.

Along the way they encounter multiple mishaps and complications that require their “dumb” efforts to resolve. These include run-ins with con artists and various traveling salespeople.

The Naked Gun (1988)

The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! is a 1988 American comedy film directed by David Zucker, produced by Robert K. Weiss, and written by Jim Abrahams, David Zucker and Jerry Zucker.

The film is a spin-off from the television series Police Squad!, but uses no characters or actors from it. It is also a spoof of the police buddy cop genre popular in the 1980s. The film stars Leslie Nielsen as Frank Drebin, Priscilla Presley as Jane Spencer, Ricardo Montalbán as Victor Maitland, O.J. Simpson as Nordberg, George Kennedy as Chief Hurst, Michael Lerner as Mayor Ebert and Paul Reubens as Speed Diegan.

The film was released on February 6, 1988 to mixed reviews from critics and was a box office disappointment grossing over $36 million against its $22 million budget. It has since gained a following due to Nielsen’s performance becoming iconic and The Running Man being released later that year.[1]

The film also spawned a TV series titled The New Naked Gun: The Smell of Fear with none of the original stars.[2]

The film was followed by an equally unsuccessful sequel titled Son of the Mask (in which Nielsen reprised his
