READY PLAYER ONE is a sci-fi nerd’s dream come true…

by Coop Cooper Based on the best-selling novel by Ernest Cline,“Ready Player One” might be one of the biggest crowdpleasers of the year, but for me, it was a cinema event unlike anything I had ever seen before. In fact, it may already be one of my favorite films of the year. In 2045, a Virtual reality game known as “Oasis” has become the largest economy in the world. Virtual possessions and status in the game dictates a person's worth in the real world. The creator of this virtual world, James Halliday (Mark Rylance), has died and willed his vast fortune and control of the Oasis to anyone who can solve an unbeatable quest he has designed within the game. Wade Watts, a.k.a. “Parzival” (Tye Sheridan) is a poor teen orphan with a knack for pop-culture knowledge and winning challenges inside Oasis. When he solves a clue that puts him on the path to winning Halliday's game, he teams up with an elite gamer, Art3mis (Olivia Cooke) and a clan of good-natured gamers to quest for the prize. Unfortunately he catches the attention of Sorrento (Ben Mendelsohn), the CEO of Halliday's rival company who will stop at nothing, including real-world assassination, to claim the prize for himself...
