I now believe that I am inaccurate in that belief considering “Blade Runner” did explore the futuristic concept of human-like robots and the ethical issues that will arise from bringing them to life. If it hadn't explored that issue, the futuristic setting of “Blade Runner” and its groundbreaking visual style would have been essentially pointless. Unfortunately, Duncan Jones' “Mute” (now available on Netflix) is a detective story that has absolutely no business being in a futuristic world, nor does the story within it have much narrative value...
