Climbing in Romania: The Short Guide

BY LUKAS We have spent a couple of weeks in Romania on our roadtrip, but the weather was not very cooperative for Climbing this time. Climbing in Romania deserves a post on its own in any case though and so I have decided to write up cool climbing areas around the country. This climbing guide to Romania is for people that are not super strong, but also not absolute beginners, as the rock here can be less than suitable for the “flip-flop” climbers. In any case, if your on-sight skills are below 5c, go climbing to a different country because you will be more scared than having fun. Trust me, I found out the hard way ;-). Munţii Apuseni One of the areas I have visited most recently is the home turf of the climbers from Cluj. The limestone crags all around this mountain range offer everything from steep caves with hard sport routes to overgrown alpine limestone adventures. Vadu Crișului This limestone canyon lies only about an hour from the Hungarian border.
