Why you should consider Croatia as a yacht charter destination?

Yacht Charter Croatia

You know that you want to take a sailing charter trip this year for vacation but have no idea where to start looking. There are so many destinations around the globe that would be potentially amazing sailing trips. Have you considered the country of Croatia in this process? Croatia may not be on the top of your list when it comes to travel planning but that should change right now. This beautiful country across from Italy on the Adriatic sea is a prime destination to plan a sailing charter trip. While by far not the only attraction in Croatia, if you come for the history alone you will not be disappointed.

The first big reason you should consider Croatia for your sailing trip is the amount of history you can view while on vacation. Croatia has been around since before the Romans and offers a wide variety of sites to take a look at. Flying into the more southern city of Dubrovnik will get your yacht charter croatia experience off to a good start. Unfortunately Dubrovnik suffered from a large earthquake in the mid 17th century but many spectacular sites are still standing. There are two main churches you should consider visitng the St Blaise church and the St Saviour church. While the former is roughly one hundred years newer, both of these churches offer their own interesting history. There are also two main palaces you should venture to called the Rector’s Palace and the Sponza palace. The bonus is that the former is now home to the national archives and the later has been turned into a museum. You will get your fill of information at these two spots. Last but not least in Dubrovnik are the city walls themselves. These spectacular walls were originally built for defensive purposes and can now be walked along to enjoy the amazing view of both land and sea.

Sailing north on your chartered yacht will eventually land you in the city of Split. While housing some memorable museums the most impressive site may be something which is quite a bit newer. Built in 1979, the Poljud Stadium is a beautifully crafted soccer stadium which can hold 55,000 fans at capacity. If sports really aren’t your thing you can visit numerous different museums such as the Archaeological Museum, the Croatian Maritime museum or the Gallery of Fine arts to name a few. There is so much to do and see in Split you will have to plan your yacht charter trip accordingly. The last thing you want is to be forced back to sailing when there are still areas of Split you wanted to visit.

Next in line while sailing your yacht north is Zadar. This mid sized city offers a look at a lot of Roman styled architecture and makes you feel like you have been transported back in time in some areas. Zadar has quite a few historic churches you can visit which will be your central theme during your time here. There are three in particular you want be sure to include which are St Chysogonus’s Church, St Donatus’s Church and St Anastasia’s Cathedral. Each church offers a unique experience in history and should not be passed up. Another area that is a must see is the Roman Forum which has been standing for around 1700 years. It is an impressive glimpse back into the time of the Romans.

I would like to mention one city that is never on the visiting list by yachters but it has a significant place in naval history of Croatia and that is Rijeka. This city name is aptly translated into the word river as the Rjecina flows through the middle of town into the open sea. There are a handful of historic places to visit in Rijeka which are worth the trip. The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Trsat is a magificient structure sitting on top of a hill that cannot be missed, literally and figuratively. There is also an old 19th century torpedo factory, an old Roman arch and Rijeka Cathedral to consider on your visit. There is also the ability to travel to some of the inland areas for the day to check out other sites.

The last main city on this boating journey will be Pula. A city placed on Croatia’s largest peninsula, Istria. Pula is a large port city in a deep and natural protected bay with rich cultural history since Roman times. Well known landmark of Pula is the stunningly preserved Vespasian Arena, which is known as the one of the most beautiful monuments from the Roman period. In the summer period, you have many concerts in the Arena and the Pula Film Festival is a must if you find yourself on the spot during film festival.

This historic yachting trip offers just a small glimpse of what Croatia has to offer. As this is by boat only the coastal cities have been mentioned and not even all of them. Depending on how much time you have set aside for your crusing of Croatia you may have the ability to dock at some of the smaller cities or even spend some time on land visiting area that are not on the water. This isn’t even mentioning some of the beautiful islands on the Adriatic sea. Regardless of your time frame you will not run out of things to do in Croatia.

So when you are planning your next great getaway remember to think of Croatia as your ultimate yacht charter destination.
