New Zealand is fast becoming a hot spot for tourists from all over the world, with Queenstown and Milford Sound in particular being some of the most photographed destinations. In preparation for World Social Media Day, we put our heads together and came up with our favourite must-do Instagram spots.
1. Mitre Peak, Milford Sound
In 2017 Milford Sound topped the list for the most Instagrammed places in New Zealand. And with towering mountains like Mitre Peak it’s no surprise. Mitre Peak is visible as soon as you drive through the beech trees and into the action. You’ll see it as you head out on your Southern Discoveries Cruise and as you walk along the foreshore boardwalk. It comes as no surprise that Mitre Peak is now one of the most photographed peaks in the country.
2. Lake Wakatipu
It’s not every day that you find yourself in an adventure packed town with mountains, trees and one of the most Instagrammed lakes in New Zealand in the middle. Don’t miss an opportunity to get out on this lake and grab a shot for your Insta. Book the Spirit of Queenstown Scenic Cruise and enjoy a scenic journey along Lake Wakatipu with views of the Southern Alps, informative commentary and a hot drink or two.
3. Queenstown Hill
Not only is this a beautiful walk, but it’s also a great photo opportunity. Climb high into the trees and be rewarded with a fantastic view of Queenstown. Enjoy a snack, snap a pic and breathe in the fresh mountain air. This walk provides a serene and peaceful moment – a welcome break in the midst of your busy New Zealand journey. Be sure to stop at the Basket of Dreams for that perfect Instagram shot!
4. Arrowtown
Arrowtown is one to feature on your Instagram feed. A quaint and charming town with an intriguing history. Immerse yourself in the tales of the gold mining days, stroll along the Arrow River and discover the hidden historic miners cottages. This is one picture you don’t want to miss! Each season brings a new look to Arrowtown, so once is never enough!
5. The Chasm, Milford Sound
The journey to Milford Sound is a spectacular road trip with many stops along the way. The Chasm is one not to miss and one of the stops included on Go Milford Day Trip – our longest day trip into Milford Sound. Only a short walk, this is a fantastic snap shot of Fiordland scenery with foot bridges, waterfalls and plenty of greenery. If you’re lucky you may see a Kea, the large alpine parrot! Kea are unique and beautiful, but be sure to admire from a distance.
