Destinations/Ports Series: 2023 Greenland and Canadian Arctic Expedition
The Ilulissat Ice Fjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the most amazing thing we saw on this trip, The Sermeq Glacier, hundreds of miles north of the Arctic Circle, feeds billions of tons of ice into this fjord every year. The giant bergs float down the fjord, becoming trapped in shallow water, making virtual log jam of ice. We got to view this amazing phenomenon both from land with a hike to from the visitor’s center and from a locally operated tour boat. The weather and the amazing scenery made for a remarkable day.
