Aloha Friday Photo: A view from the Mighty Mo in Pearl Harbor

Mahalo to Robert Kiley Jr. for sharing this Aloha Friday Photo. He took this photo from the Battleship Missouri Memorial while visiting Oahu back in 2006.

This retired battleship was launched in 1944 during World War II. Perhaps one of the most famous events that the USS Missouri participated in was hosting the surrender ceremony of Japan on September 2, 1945. The Missouri was in service for WWII, the Korean War and the Gulf War. Read more about the Missouri’s history.

We chose Robert’s photo specifically for today as it is the start of Memorial Day weekend and Pearl Harbor is the site of several memorials. If you happen to be on Oahu for this holiday, check out our guide for Memorial Day events and meaningful things to do to respect and honor the purpose of the holiday.
