These Haunted Places In Rajasthan Will Give You Severe Goosebumps!

Recently I went to a midnight screening of the horror flick Lights Out and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of screaming my guts out during the course of the movie. I guess people must have found my earsplitting shrieks more horrifying than the movie, but well thats another story.
Anyways, the movie got me thinking and I started doing some research on some of the scariest places around and found a majority of them in no other place than Mharo Rajasthan. Traditionally Rajasthan has always been synonymous with royalty and tourism so this came as a shocker. So I compiled everything up and voila! Here is a list of some of the most haunted places in Rajasthan that are sure to give you the creeps:

Bhangarh Fort - Alwar

The Bhangarh Fort is probably the first place that jumps to your mind when someone mentions the word haunted. Thousands of people have claimed to have seen, heard or felt supernatural phenomena in the premises. According to local legends, an evil magician fell in love with princess Ratnawati of Bhangarh, who was famed for her beauty. He hatched a plan to entice her but it failed and led to his eventual death. While dying he cursed the whole Fort to a horrible death, which eventually did happen as they were massacred by invading forces. It is believed that the spirits of these slain people still haunt the area and kill anyone who spends a night here. Dare to find out if its true?

Kuldhara Village - near Jaisalmer

The case of Kuldhara is as spooky as it is intriguing. The village was once inhabited by Paliwal Brahmins and was quite populated until one day when suddenly it became deserted overnight. Not a single soul could be seen in the ghost-town after that. Though there are various stories given as explanations, one that it most popular is that the states minister wanted to forcibly marry the village headmans daughter and was threatening the family. All the village folks moved away and cursed Kuldhara so that no-one would inhabit it again. Visitors to this date claim to experience paranormal behavior like strange footprints, sudden chills and scratches on cars.

Brij Raj Bhavan - Kota

A relatively lesser known, yet equally haunted place in Rajasthan is the mansion turned Heritage Hotel Brij Raj Bhavan. The mansion was the residence of Charles Burton, a British Major who was killed by his soldiers during the mutiny of 1857. But soon after his death, the servants and people staying in the house started feeling unnatural happenings. They claimed to have seen apparitions of his ghost and could hear his boots and voice in the corridors. The Major was very fond of rules and discipline and some guards claimed they were slapped if they dozed off during their duty. The best part is that you can actually verify all this as the mansion is a hotel! Do you have the guts? If yes then here's the link below!

It is common to hear of lonely, desolate places being haunted but Jagatpura in Jaipur is a densely populated area that is said to be so haunted that people shiver at the very thought of stepping outside after it gets dark. A lot of people have claimed to have seen actual witches wandering on the roads, dressed in white saris. Some say that the area was cursed by the villagers who used to live here in ancient times and died of starvation, while the king was busy in merrymaking. Well dont believe everything you hear, but then do you have the courage to find out on your own?! Jagatpura is one of the most popular places to visit in Jaipur.

Said to be one of the most haunted places in Rajasthan, the Rana Kumbha Palace, with its ruined structure and weird occurrences will definitely run a shiver down your spine. It is said that when Alauddin Khilji laid siege to the Palace and finally succeeded in conquering it, Rani Padmini with other ladies of the Palace committed suicide by jumping into a raging fire. This act of Jauhar was done to save themselves from the atrocities of the invading forces. People have heard screams of women begging for help and visions of half-burnt ladies in the passages.

Chand Baori - Abhaneri

The Chand Baori is a world famous structure that has been used for the filming of movies like The Dark Knight Rises! It is over a thousand years old and is the deepest stepwell in India. Though famous for so many reasons, not many people are aware that it is also one of the most haunted places in Rajasthan! Though credit for its construction has been given to the Chauhan Dynasty, some local legends claim that it was built by ghosts in one night. Ghosts are said to be at regular mischief here. Some visitors have claimed that some supernatural force doesnt allow them to ascend the same stairs that they used for climbing down. Others claim to have seen someone at the bottom of the stairs and disappear in a flash. True or not, Chand Baori is an attraction that should just not be missed.

Sudhabhay - Pushkar

Pushkar is well known for its annual camel fair that attracts millions of visitors from all parts of the world. Another little-known event is the Ghost Fair that takes place every year and witnesses people arriving from different regions who claim to be possessed by evil spirits. A wash in the holy well here supposedly is supposed to exorcise the evil spirits from them. Though the process maybe doubtful, the rituals are sure to scare the hell out of anyone! And who knows where the evil spirit might end up after being driven out..?
