Banner Peak in Ansel Adams Wilderness

Banner Peak Banner Peak is one of the most scenic peaks in the Sierra Nevada. It’s the 2nd highest summit in the Ritter Range with Mount Ritter having a 200 feet advantage. Unlike Mount Ritter, Banner Peak is considerably slimmer with a sharp profile; it’s surrounded by 1500-2000 feet high vertical cliffs except for the southwest side. Banner Peak is better photographed approaching in the northeast as it appears to be floating on the huge 2-mile broad seas of the Thousand Island Lakes – that’s where this view is. Banner Peak shares the identical access points with Mount Ritter. The nearest trailhead is Agnew Meadows with an altitude of 8200 ft. By Agnew Meadows, choose Shadow Lake Trail to Banner-Ritter’s east side, or Thousand Island Lake Trail to Banner’s west or north sides.
