What to expect at Gardens By The Bay
1. The Conservatories
The cooled conservatory complex that sits at the edge of Marina Reservoir, is spread over an area of 20,000 sq. meters. Both, the Flower Dome and the Cloud Forest, that make up the complex are awe-inspiring man-made wonders that double as edutainment units. The sustainable complex is home to an array of exotic plants, trees and flowers growing as they do in nature, broken occasionally by a waterfall or a meadow. The charming aura of the conservatories is enough to transport anyone into a magical place.
Flower Dome
The Flower Dome is spread over an area of 1.2 hectares, and it is the world’s largest column-less glass house. It emulates the dry climate of the Mediterranean, and other semi-arid tropical areas with similar weather conditions, like that of South America, Australia, and South Africa. The conservatory is almost like a small jungle with a quiet meadow, and rare species of all plants green and colourful. The excellence of its design is reflected in the walkways that pass through the tree canopies, and in some places, above the treetops. The highlight of this green space are the seven gardens that feature different varieties of flora.
Cloud Forest
Cloud forest, spread over an area of 0.8 hectares is higher, but smaller of the two conservatories. The environment inside this glass bound wonder is the opposite of the Flower Dome, as it is a replication of the moist and tropical climate of regions like South-East Asia, Middle and South America. The conservatory gets its name from the 42-metre tall Cloud Mountain which is beautifully covered in orchids, anthuriums, bromeliads, peacock ferns, and other intricate epiphytes. You can take in all this as you descend the circular path which also passes from front of the perpetual waterfall- a refreshing stop for sure.
2. Supertree Grove
Looking at one of the Supertrees here at the Gardens of the Bay, you may think it is a thing from the future- but, the vertical garden is here in all its splendour. The Supertree Grove has 12 of these technologically advanced trees, with heights ranging between 25 metres to 50 metres. These superstructures are designed to function exactly like a tree- they harness solar energy with the help of photovoltaic cells and this energy powers up the amazing light and sound show every evening. The trees also absorb and store rainwater that helps its many vines to grow beautifully.
3. OCBC Skyway
What if we told you that there is a way for you to see the marvellous Supertree Grove from up close? The OCBC Skyway is 128 meters of jaw-dropping aerial awesomeness- walking on it comes very close to feeling as if you are floating in mid-air. This one-of-its-kind skyway loops around the Supertrees, and is 22 meters above the ground. If you are here in the evening, you can witness the shades of dusk merging with the electrifying beauty of the Supertrees as the Garden Rhapsody begins- it is a light and sound show you wouldn’t want to miss.
4. Far East Organization Children’s Garden
If you are looking to spend some laid back time with your kids, head to the Far East Organization Children’s Garden. It is divided into different zones, and is replete with fun educational programs that you can do with your little ones. Don’t forget to pack your swimming gear if you are headed here.
Toddler Play Zone
The Toddler Play Zone has all things fun- from stepping springs to a fish fountain, and a landscape of interactive water tunnels and sculptures. It is perfect for the ever-active toddlers aged between 1-5 years.
Rainforest Tree Houses
Shaded by a dense canopy of trees, this region of the Children’s Garden has two tree houses with heights 4 metres and 7.5 metres. And what completes the experience of being in this little jungle is the 130-metre-long forest trail that your kids can walk. If your kid is aged between 6-12 years, take them here and let them live the ultimate jungle adventure fantasy.
Water Play
Kids love playing with water, and this gem of a play takes this love to a whole another level. The water play is fixed with sensors that can detect the kids’ movement and creates a water show on the symphony they compose with their jumping feet.
Amphitheatre
If you are looking to gather students, kids and adults for an educational programme, this amphitheatre, surrounded by trees, will be the perfect choice.
5. Dragonfly and Kingfisher Lake
The Dragonfly and Kingfisher lakes are pools of aquatic life in Gardens By The Bay. The lakes are a world of their own with fishes and plants decorating its azure water. Interestingly, all the aquatic flora and fauna in these lakes have made it their natural habitat and they act together to maintain the nutrient composition in the water. These, along with the aquatic reeds are like natural eco-filters. If anything, you should spend some time here just to marvel at nature’s bounty.
6. Heritage Garden
The Heritage Garden is where you can witness the origin of Singapore and its people, and how their stories are strongly attached to the natural world of flora and fauna. The Indian, Chinese, Malay, and Colonial Gardens are all inspired from the strong roots these communities have in mother nature. From the Banyan tree in the Indian Garden, to Pine in the Chinese Garden, Breadfruit tree in Malay Garden, and Rubber and Cocoa in the Colonial Garden- the Heritage Garden will take you on a journey of the history of this modern city- from its position on the ancient Silk Route, to the flourishing multicultural society it houses.
7. The Canyon
The Canyon is an example of masterful landscape architecture. Designed by Jun-ichi Inada, the Canyon boasts of an unparalleled collection of olden rock forms that have their origin in Shandong, China. Set amidst 200 odd species of plants from arid regions, the natural rock formations are nestled against the backdrop of the glass panelled conservatories. What is also striking about The Canyon are the exceptionally designed sculptures of Huabiao (Chinese Totem), a giant Dragonfly, Marco Drago (metal dragon).
8. Art Sculptures
Gardens by the Bay offers an amalgamation of different art forms, and its large expanse is peppered with over 40 sculptures from different parts of the world. From unique craft forms to antique stone works, these varied sculptures mesh with the beauty of Gardens by the Bay, and add to it a different dimension of art.

Gardens By The Bay Timings
With so much to see and do, it can be difficult to keep a track of your time. That’s why we are listing the opening and closing time of all the regions right here in a nutshell.
Conservatories- Flower Dome and Cloud Forest
The conservatories are open throughout the week from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. But the ticket window closes at 8:00 PM, and you can enter the complex up till 8:30 PM.
OCBC Skyway
You can go up the OCBC Skyway on any day of the week between 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. The ticket sales for the Skyway close at 8:00 PM, and the last admission is at 8:30 PM.
Far East Organization Children’s Garden
On Weekdays (Tuesday-Friday), the Children’s Garden is open from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Last admission is at 6:30 PM. On Weekends (Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays), the garden is open from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Last admission is at 8:30 PM.
The Waterplay and Fish Fountain areas close at 6:30 PM on the weekdays, and at 8:30 PM on weekends/public holidays
The garden is closed on every Monday. The garden remains closed on Tuesday if the preceding Monday was a public holiday.
Outdoor Gardens
The Outdoor Gardens are open throughout the week between 5:00AM and 2:00 AM.
Bay East Garden
Bay East Garden is open 24 hours a day, all through the year.
Getting to Gardens By The Bay
Being one of the most visited sights in Singapore, Gardens by the Bay is well connected with all others parts of Singapore.
Train and Bus connectivity
• If you are travelling to Gardens by the Bay via the Circle Line or Downtown line, you can get off at the Bayfront MRT Station (CE1/DT16) and follow the underground linkway to take Exit B. Then you can enter Gardens by the Bay by crossing the Dragonfly Bridge or the Meadow Bridge.
• If you are taking the East-West Line, then you should alight at the Tanjong Pagar MRT Station (EW15) and take exit C to go to the bus stop near International Plaza on Anson Road (Bust Stop number-03223). Take bus number 400 and alight at bus stop number 03371 that’s located along the Marina Gardens Drive.
Walking to the Gardens by the Bay
• If you are around the Helix Bridge, walk towards the Art Science Museum. You can take the footpath that goes to the East Coast Parkway to directly enter the Bay South Garden.
• From the Marina Bay Sands, you can crossover using the Lions Bridge that is open every day from 8 am to 11 pm, to reach the Gardens. Or you can even take the underground linkway via Bayfront MRT Station and come out of Exit B to reach here.
Gardens By The Bay Rules and Regulations
- The Gardens are home to numerous plant species, and it is important that you respect them and their environments. Refrain from plucking, stamping on, climbing or damaging any plant life .
- Singapore is known for its cleanliness, and the law here prohibits littering. While you are in the city, and in the Gardens, make sure you deposit the litter in garbage bins.
- Gardens by the Bay promotes community bonding, and you can have a fun picnic in its many open lawns and gardens, except the Conservatories. Remember that you cannot take any picnic furniture in any part of the Gardens.
- BBQs are prohibited in the Gardens.
- Motorised and seated mobility scooters are allowed in the gardens.
- Consumption of food and drinks is not allowed in the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest.
- If you have a pet dog, know that you have to keep them on a leash and they are permitted in the Outdoor Gardens, but not in the Conservatories, on the OCBC Skyway or the Children’s Garden (guide dogs are allowed). Remember to clean up after your dogs and make sure that you dispose of the waste hygienically.
- The whole of Gardens by the Bay is a smoke- free zone.
- Cycling is allowed along the waterfront promenade in Bay South Garden, and perimeter of Bay East Garden. You will have to explore all the other areas of the Garden on foot as Bicycles/tricycles, roller skates, scooters and skateboards are prohibited in the other parts of the Garden. There are bike stands available at the Bay South Gardens where you can secure your bicycles. Swimming, fishing, and kite flying are all prohibited in the Gardens.
- You can click as many photos and make videos to save as memories, but if you are planning a commercial shoot in the beautiful vistas of Gardens by the Bay, you will have to file a request for permission at least two weeks in advance.
- Any kind of aerial devices like remote- controlled aerial cameras, planes, helicopters, etc. are prohibited in the Gardens. You will need prior permission to arrange organised activities in the Gardens.
Insider Tips
- It’s all about the timing!
If you are looking to avoid large crowds and leisurely exploring the Gardens, try to plan your visit to here on a weekday. On weekends, the crowd in the Gardens may double with both locals and tourists heading here. - By your tickets in advance
Gardens by the Bay attracts a huge crowd every day, and if you want to see the Conservatories or enter the Children’s Garden, you may have to wait in long queues to get the tickets. It would be best if you decide which day you will be visiting the Gardens and buy your tickets in advance. - Souvenir shopping
There are three gift shops at the Gardens-Arrival Gift Shop, Canopy Gift Shop, Conservatory Gift Shop- and each one has a selection of Gardens by the Bay souvenirs that you can take back home. Also worth trying are their special teas and ice creams. - Routes and trails
There is a lot to see at Gardens of the Bay, and if you are interested in plants and trees, then even a full day may not seem enough. If you are planning to be at the Gardens for 2-3 hours, you will have just enough time to see the two Conservatories, Supertree Grove and the OCBC Skyway. If you have kept half a day aside for exploring Gardens by the Bay, then we suggest you start with the Conservatories and go on to the Outdoor Gardens and then enjoy the Garden Rhapsody by finding a good spot on the OCBC Skyway in the evening.
