Bad news for anyone booked on United Airlines out of JFK after Oct. 29, 2022. The US carrier is temporarily halting operations, which it says is due to too much competition for winter travel.
The timing couldn't be worse for folks who planned holiday trips to or from Kennedy on United.

According to a report on CNN.com, "United has been negotiating with the FAA to acquire additional slots, or takeoff and landing authorizations, at JFK and advocating for the agency to update its assessment of the airport’s capacity. United said its discussions with the regulator have been “constructive” and that it is clear the FAA is serious about operational improvements in the New York region.

But United said these improvements would take time."

United took a five year hiatus from offering flights from JFK that resumed In March of 2021. Although it won't be operating out of the New York facility, United says it will secure jobs in other locations for its employees.

The airline also assures it will work with customers who have booked tickets for flights after it ceases serving JFK.

But I'm not exactly sure what that means. Hopefully it will translate to refunds or bookings on other carriers.

The ever-changing world of air travel.
