A summer's day dining at Ocean Prime Beverly Hills

 Enjoying a light Asian-fusion, a l fresco lunch

By Patti Pietschmann, Travel Diva

It had been way too long since I’d been to Ocean Prime Beverly Hills. Blame the pandemic. My husband and I had many memorable meals there over the years but hadn't been back until a friend and I were trying to decide where to go for a June lunch. And voila! I came up with Ocean Prime BH especially since we wanted outdoor dining and I knew the food would be great.

Al fresco dining

The attractive patio provides comfy booths and tables.  And by the time we were half-way through our noon meal, it was filled with the 'beautiful' people of BH and beyond.  I called ahead and reserved  a booth in which we comfortably settled for a lovely light lunch, which we shared, along with some Rodney Strong chardonnay.  Our female service, by the way, was a pure delight.

I had a yen for Asian. And so my friend. So we divvied up a poke bowl with Ahi tuna, salmon, avocado and Siracha vinaigrette. Next course was an uber yummy vegetable roll with soy paper, crispy asparagus, avocado, daikon, mango and a light and tasty sesame lime vinaigrette.

This was truly exceptional, as were the breads

Although satisfied by the first two courses, we ordered the house special blackened salmon salad that was just perfect.

Summertime lunch

The outdoor patio at Ocean Prime Beverly Hills is a great spot for summer lunches.

But dinners in the stylish, supper club-like dining room are also worth a trip. The restaurant’s chic design dips progressively darker, moodier, and sexier as the main bar wraps back further into the dining space and becomes a sushi bar. The main dining room is highlighted by an open kitchen and windows that peek into three private dining rooms.

Walls are lined with black and white artwork featuring classic Hollywood stars, commissioned by Artists Jordan Clark, Lola Dupré, and Jenny Sharaf. Dark wood tables and rich leather seating juxtapose the kitchen and oodles of personality. It’s also expensive and well worth it. Ocean Prime  is located at 9595 Wilshire Blvd., Beverly Hills. Reservations can be made by phone 310-859-4818 or on opentable.com.

Side bar

If they have this layer carrot cake on the menu when you go, order it! We had it a few years ago and  it's one of the best we ever tasted.
