July trip to Washington D.C.

   I feel like Washington, D.C. has been on my bucket list for ages. Being travel bugs as we are, every year we try to explore more and learn something new. If we stay in one place for too long, we both know that it's time to book a flight. Likely for both of us, my birthday was a perfect occasion to Visit Washington. Long story short, the destination was chosen, flights were booked and bags were packed.

Where to stay? It was the 4th of July weekend, and prices were higher than usual. We had 2 options: to stay in Downtown and use public transportation or to choose a hotel close to downtown and get a rental car. Since Hyatt and Sheraton were all packed, we stayed in Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Washington, DC/New York Avenue (15 minutes from Downtown).
Where to go?
We had enough time to explore, but there are so many things to do in Washington that it can be just too much for one trip,  so I made a list of the places you cannot miss during your first visit: - National Museum of American History;
Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum (Planetarium is must visit);
National World War II Memorial;
Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History;
Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool;
National Museum of Women in the Arts;
United States Capitol Visitor Center;
Supreme Court of United States;
- Washington Union Station.
Small tips if going to D.C.: if you are going to visit in summer, I would recommend a good sunscreen to be the first thing to pack. Washington is the place where you thank Universe for comfortable shoes and water. You also appreciate wind and shade, summer is hot in Washington.
What to eat?
We tried more than enough different food in Washington: some places were really good, others – surprisingly awful. But if you are going to visit Washington, you will enjoy:
 - French cuisine at Le Diplomate;
 - Lunch at Hank's Oyster Bar;
Lobster rolls at Luke's Lobster Penn Quarter;
Great wine selection, delicious pizza, and the best apple pie I tried in D.C. at District of Pi;
Breakfast and coffee at PAUL;
Brunch, best French macaroons and more at Ladurée
Small tips: if you are a foodie, Washington is a place for you. I would suggest you try seafood in the first place. To be frank, Washington is expensive, so a little research before the trip will save you some time and money. It's nice to have a bottle of water with you because you will have to walk a lot and it's nice to stay hydrated.
Thanks for reading! What places are on your bucket list😉
