It's always so nice to see different types of properties available for home swapping - be it houseboats, campervans, static caravans, treehouses etc. This lovely trip report was sent to us by Home Base Holidays member, Marguerite, who had previously spent her Easter holiday break visiting the beautiful English Lake District ...by arranging a home swap holiday in a yurt!
"Easter breaks are a tradition, and we have always done something interesting. Often Rome is in our Easter travel plans and last year we had a wonderful home exchange in a beautiful apartment near the Vatican.
However, this year was completely different, this year we again arranged a home exchange but this time ...in a yurt! We like to go camping from time to time, but usually just for two or three nights tops. However, this time we had six days of yurt style glamping staying at Rydal Hall in Ambleside. We are keen walkers and love exploring the lakes and countryside, but even for us six days in a normal tent would have been hard work but in Dianne’s fabulous yurt it was a real pleasure. Can I return to our regular two man tent? I think I may have been spoilt forever!
The weather was perfect, nevertheless early morning and evenings things started to cool down, but rather than don several more layers of clothing and shiver, we simply lit the lovely woodstove which warmed the yurt in minutes. We did have some difficulty sleeping, but only because the roof has a window, so stargazing and early morning squirrel watch were a real joy.
Many thanks Dianne for this opportunity, fingers crossed we can have a repeat!"
