Dear Taipei,
Check out my article for Travelog, Taipei this February, for full details of the events!
Here’s a rundown of the events I featured, with links to more info:
February Events in Taipei
International Comics and Anime Festival (February 2-6)
Manga fans are well accommodated in Taipei – there’s a number of events throughout the year which celebrate the art form. The Taipei International Comics & Animation Festival is one of the most popular manga-related events here, so it must offer something noteworthy if the crowds continue to come year after year. Expect books, media, and merchandise, and perhaps a bit of cosplay thrown into the mix.
Pingxi Lantern Festival (February 11-19)
Pingxi Lantern Festival is one of Taipei’s biggest tourist drawcards, so you may have already heard of how unmissable of an event it is. I would have to agree – it’s definitely an event you experience at least once. The masses of lanterns, lively atmosphere… it’s a lot of fun, but the crowds can make it a bit exhausting too. To find out more about what to expect at Pingxi (and see an embarrassing video of my failed lantern launch), check out my article, Pingxi Lantern Festival, Taiwan!
We are Connected Taipei (February 19)
If you head to We are Connected Taipei’s event page, and you’ll see that a couple of thousand people have said they’re already going to this massive music festival, and another 3000 plus are interested in it. The Tiesto-headlined music festival is perhaps the biggest of the year so far, and tickets are on the verge of selling out. Get on it now if you want to go – tickets won’t be around for much longer.
Carnaval Taipei (February 27)
Maji Maji, the location of this month’s Carnaval Taipei, is always on the game when it comes to planning events. This one is promising to be a big one, what with hoards of dancing, food, and an after party planned. There’s no entrance fee for Carnaval, so if you’re short on plans, it’s probably worth the wander up to Yuanshan to join in on the fun.
AVATAR: Discover Pandora (All month)
While this interactive exhibition won’t appeal to everyone, fans of the movie Avatar will appreciate the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in world of Pandora. AVATAR: Discover Pandora made its world debut in Taiwan last December, but people are only catching onto the fact it’s here now. The timing couldn’t be better – it’s the last month to catch it here before it sets off on a world tour, so if it’s your thing, be sure to pay it a visit by the end of this Feb.
Hope those events add some excitement to your month!
